N.I. not part of UK (according to DVLA)

Ok, I've had just about enough of this nonsense..!
As many of you know, or not as the case may be, I bought my Chim in Cardiff about 6 weeks ago.
Now, I filled out the V5/2, or whatever it is, section of the registration document in the presence of the previous owner, who then presented the form to the local DVLA office in Cardiff or thereabouts.
I would have thought I would have received some sort of documentation thru the post by now confirming me as the new owner then I could go to the NI DVLA to get a NI log book or new fangled form thingy that they are rolling out.
So I ring the DVLA up, as instructed on the back of the form V5/2, only to be told that I need to export the car to NI.....ehh ?
"NI is part of the UK" (no politics please
)I say to the person on one of the 220 lines that DVLA have in service.."NI has a different registration" said the nice lady....."You need to give me a UK address so I can send you the document, you then need to complete the section marked 'Exporting a car' and return it to us"......."right"..." but NI IS part of the UK" I said......"I know" said the lady...."but you need an address over here"........
Wot's all this about then.....?????
Am I going to have to give my brothers address so he can forward the forms onto me to sign and return to the DVLA.......??? oh I dunno why is nothin easy...

I dont see why it should be a problem.
Ive bought cars on the mainland before. The owner has filled in the part at the bottom of their tax book, sent it off with my details, and I have received the new ( English ) log book to my address.
But, yes, after I recieved this, I had to go to the tax office here, and fill in an Export/Import form, as I was importing the vehicle into Northern Ireland.

I have just brought a chimaera over from England recently and went to tax it yesterday, only to be told that I needed an import cert. this is going to take 2 weeks to sort out. The people in Colraine havent a clue as i inquired about this several weeks ago and there was no mention of this. Its rediculous we have to import a car from one Swansea to Armagh, whats it all coming to.

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! pain in the arse or what...!!
I phoned Coleraine and they basically said all I need to do was fill out form V55/5 - "Application for a first licence for a used motor vehicle and declaration for registration" which i've just recieved, a new log book will be sent out by return....remains to be seen.
This does seem to be the form you require....
My problem is my car is taxed until OCT 04 so all i need is the log book and not the bloody tax...problems problems..

You don't need to do anything until the tax runs out then it's simple i.e. register a used car on V55/5. it's no big deal they'll take the V5 and replace it with a much nicer log book.
Surely all Chimaera owners can't be thick!

Yes Jigs but the MOT runs out next month !!
It's as well us Chimps (sorry guys but need to use it this time) have thick skins.....
Anyway when ever I tell people what model my car is, at least it does not sound like I've got a lisp...

Your right were not part of UK as far as DVLCO are concerned you ought to try getting a car through SVA Cars that comply across the pond fail here on desigh points [ NOT Construction] and on appeal we get told that SVA rules are applied differently here to mainland and Swansea has no duristiction over N.I.
Are we under direct rule or what is there a secret agenda going on........ All I know is we are being shafted at every opportunity.
