Hi,
I had my black M5 left out on the culmore road in L'derry with a for sale sign over the last few days, and today I return to it to find that some #$%& has snapped off half my rear number plate.
Upon closer inspection, it was evident that they had a good go at it with a screwdriver, and have left some lovely scores for me to get painted mad
This seems really suspect to me, because the git must have been really been keen to have a go with a screwdriver, and because that's exactly where the chassis number is. After the number was uncovered nothing else was disturbed. Too much of a coincidence, no?
Has anything like this happened to anyone? Been to the police and got a reference number, but the guy on the desk reckoned that cloning doesn't really happen here....
I'm well pi$$ed off- trying to sell the car to fund a house purchase and now have to spend hundreds to get it sorted. weeping

Of course cloning happens. Only a blind idiot would say that it doesnt.

Although more than likely just plain vandalism

If it was just vandalism, why the number plates, and why the screwdriver?

I'd say it couldve been an attempt to get some free petrol at your expense.. I'd keep that reference number safe just incase!

The damage was only on the bootlid, around the number plate surround, where the screwdriver must have slipped. He was determined looking by the number of scores which makes me think that he had an alterior motive. No damage was done to any other part of the car, so why else would you be that hell bent to take a number plate off?

Although number plate manufacture is pretty strict in Northern Ireland now, (You needs V5 to get plates made) a 5 minute trip over the border from Derry a Sign company will make you a set of Northern number plates for around 10-15 euros it just makes a mockery of the rules here.

It's easy to get plates. The stupid laws only cause hassle to normal people wanting new plates !!!

Same rules throughout the UK though, although NI was lagging behind with the legislation.

It didnt stop car crime or cloning on the mainland, and it wont stop it here. Really..why do they come up with these ideas ?
