This may have been covered before but i am new to the forum. What have you folks found to be the best super unleaded to use & does 99 octane exist in N.I.
Have been using BP Ultimate but i know that Texaco also do 97 & Sainsbury's do Super but dunno the octane count on that one.

Cheers.

Hi
I am in the same boat, have an E36 M3 and find it difficult to find anything other than Ultimate 97 in Newry area, unless I head towards Lisburn or Belfast I cant find anywhere that sells Super unleaded 98.

It would be great to setup a list of petrol stations in NI that sell super unleaded.

Hi,

I live in Belfast and find quite a few stations selling super - I must admit at the start I had to hunt a little for them but now I`ve a few..

Upper lisburn road (Finaghy) has several petrol stations all doing super unleaded.. Lisburn has only one I`m aware off (BP Garage - queensway - BT28 1AU)

I always add a small amount of octane boaster to even super unleaded as the TVR has quite advanced timing which pinks under very hot conditions (usually not the case in winter.. lol) - I should really get it remapped biggrin

All BP stations have SUL, and quite a few of the Topaz. Some Maxol and Texaco, and some Sainsburys etc

Nowhere has 98 or 99, it simply isnt here. Ive never had any problems with 97 anyway.

I seem to remember a Top Gear episode where the guy from the Gadget Show did a test of various fuels and Shell's Optimax 97 added more power than BPs Ultimate 98. So idea about other brands.

Getting any super is a pain in the ass of you're not in the big smoke but good excuse to go for a run.

See all you TVR boys and girls on Sat!

I can`t, got an issue with the cam cover gasket. Got one of those new ones that lifts the cam cover about 3mm to stop the timing chain witness marks but its leaking. You can hear it hissing after the engines off (until the pressure drops) so Greg's going to take a look at it on Monday.

I remember a test once, can't remember where and Tesco 99 came out on top, ahead of Optimax etc. I presume you can't get it here either, or are there even any Tesco filling stations here?

i wouldnt use any tesco fuel,i was told that the reason tesco can sell it as cheap is because they buy a worse grade of fuel than the other main suppliers.i forget the exact story but it did make sence to me and i havnt used it since.theres plenty of bp stations about, they all sell ultimate which suits me fine.bandit

I have heard complaints about Texaco Super as well so I tend to stick to Topaz.

Know idea, but would you be surprised if it was the same? I doubt if each oil Co develops their "own" petrol. Topaz is owned by a private equity group who bought all the old Shell and Statoil garages, they dont produce petrol so they have to buy, might be from Shell but could be BP etc, theres nothing on their website to say how great their own fuel is http://www.topazenergy.ie but there are no BP's near L'Derry in fact there are no garages in the city suppling Super unleaded.

That's rubbish - ALL fuel in N. Ireland (except the over-the-border stuff) comes out of the same tanks in the docks. The only difference is the additives put in to the tanker.

Ive no doubt thats the truth.

its not like it would be worth anyones while bringing in dozens of different fuels

A local tuner reckons the most timing can be dialed in using Texaco Super over here. I generally run BP ultimate but knock levels vary from tank to tank and it wouldn't surprise me if that was due to some bloke down at the docks working out his own recipe! If you are concerned get something like a knock link and/or use an additive like Silkolene ProBoost.

As the man says its the same fuel, just the tanker pack that goes in it.Obviously some additives are better than others.
