I've offered to help my big bro out and create some satnav route files for anyone with either a TomTom or Garmin. So to make sure you're all following the correct route and don't waste loads of time getting lost, download these...

You might have to right click, then select 'save link as' to stop it just opening the text in your browser window.

TomTom
Leg 1
Leg 2
Leg 3

Garmin
Leg 1
Leg 2
Leg 3

I just wish I could go!

The files work ok, but they are just text - that's all the satnav needs to calculate a route. So you should be able to right click then 'save target as' or 'save link as' and the file should just download to where ever you decide to save it on your computer.

Or failing all that... just create a new text file (right click on your desktop and select New > Text Document) then copy and paste the text that appears when you left click on each of my links into it (do them seperately). Then change the file extension from .txt to .itn for TomTom or .gpx for Garmin.

Then on your TomTom when you connect it to your PC you should be able to find a folder called 'itn' on the satnav internal memory. Just put the files in there, then when you use the satnav, rather than selecting 'Navigate to' choose 'Itinerary Planning' from the touch-screen menu.

Does that help?

I'm not that capable with those type of things Dave, if you told me how to set it with feeler gauges or a torque wrench, it wouldn't be a problem, lol

Thanks for all your help anyhow... I'll maybe get a chance to try it later.

I need a bit of help with the files for a TomTom.

I've done everything as per above (they are in the ITN folder and the extension has been changed to .itn) but when I go onto the Itinerary Planning they aren't there (an old one I want to keep is there but not this one).

Any ideas folks?

Oh and FWIW I'm using a MacBook if that matters but I don't see how it should.

I think the rule with itinerary planning on the satnav is - if it takes as long to sort the file out as it would just typing the locations in ...... don't bother.

The route isn't complicated at all, if you type in the instructions from Will2020's first post you'll be grand.

For all of those meeting at McDonalds in Lisburn I'll be there to greet you from 9.15ish. TVR Tuscan S (unless its really emptying from the heavens when i'll take the vxr vectra ).

McDonalds side of the car park.

We'll roll off at 9.30 sharp and head to Homebase at Boucher Rd where Killer Jim in the Silver Sagaris will host the remainder of the Belfast contingent.

Thens its up the road to Antrim, departing Homebase at 10am. IF you miss either of the slots simply make your way to Antrim meet point.

Michael (Smaegol).
