Sorry for the silly sounding question but .... What's the usual proceedure if S. Ireland cars are caught speeding in the North??

.. Or does anyone have thoeries on what sort of speed can be gotten away with in the north .. I'm always surprised at how fast people drive!! ..

Are you sure?

A northern driver was caught down here recently at 200 odd kph and got nothing more that a small fine (2 or 300 euro iirc). No points, no endorsements, nothing.

To the best of my knowledge neither 'juristiction' can apply fine or points as a result of being caught on a speed camera. If you are actually stopped, then they can process you through the courts and you will be fined that way but points cannot be applied cross-border.

In my experience of the PSNI, they don't like dealing with non- DVLNI licences. I drive in NI on a Swansea licence and have been stopped twice and given a warning twice...

Generally, I like to be in three figures between Dundalk and Dublin airport, although the toll-booth at Drogheda can be a bit of an obstacle!!
