Cameras on M1 !!!!
Discussion
Anyone noticed the cameras on the overhead information signs on the M1 citybound?
When you join the motorway at sprucefield to head towards Belfast, on top of the first overhead information sign there are a couple of menacing looking cameras, one pointing at each lane with little antenna sticking out the top - and then once you are past the Lisburn turn off there are two more looking at you.
They don't look like the standard numberplate recognition ones you get on the other side of the road and outside police stations, so could they be those sneaky average speed camera things?
Hope someone can shed some light on this one.

I looked into them on the web few weeks back, i think but not NOT sure that they are to monitor the average speed for traffic conjestion not lane restriction "bus lane use etc". the idea is to report back to central and indicate when traffic stops or large conjection occurs. This then is a "real time" link for some we man drinking coffee to update the digital screens with a warning to oncoming traffic!
BTW: Before i bought a Griff i was at a track day watching a V nice deep red "sorry dont know colour name" Cerb hanging it out round the track "Kirk" number plate seemed close to your username!! was it you? really nice car then if it was
Never see that car anymore

Check this site for positions of cameras in NI

Fixed and portable!!!
Not that i am recommending but i happen to know that a Radar diffuser will lock out any laser signal for a good 6 to 7 seconds, so anyone using a roadangel etc is wasting their time id go with:

Hi Peter
Cameras just for monitoring then - great, then we'll be able to read that sign that warns you of the congestion ahead even though it's too late to do anything about it! Good old DRD Roads have to have all the toys - pity they couldn't just improve the quality of the roads instead.
And yes the red cerb was me, you haven't seen that one for a while 'cos I sold it. Got a new iced titanium (dark silver) one now though and it's nearly as mean IMHO.
cheers
