Good news, it's all going to Swansea. What have they done to you?

I bought a car from the Auctions.

It has a private reg on it.
The owner sent the private reg off to be replaced.
The new V5 has gone missing.
So I need to apply for a new V5 in my name.
Which I need an MOT certificate for.
Which I don't have.
So I went to Boucher Road MOT station and paid for a replacement MOT.
Which they have to post to me (ffs).
Which they have posted to Charles Hurst (the dealer who sent it to the auctions) who can't find it (because they weren't expecting to get it)
They can only send another out but it will cost me another tenner (and it will go to charles hurst again as thats the name they have as the registered keeper as I havent got a new V5 yet).

I cant even start from scratch and book it in for an MOT because I would have to drive it there and it has the wrong plates on it. (The private reg).
I can't get new plates because I haven't got a V5...

Rinse and repeat.

OK, I'm probably missing something here but why would you need an MoT to get a V5? The car's roadworthiness has no impact on the V5 which just documents the car's details and the registered keeper.

Because it's the rules in Ni.
You need a valid mot certificate and insurance document at the post office for them to accept the v61

Who told you that? Was it the old biddy at the post office? As I said it's moved to Swansea and they use a V62 and you can even do it over the phone. No mention of a valid MoT they just want £25.

Actually looking at that page the post office aren't just getting you a new V5. They're trying to tax it at the same time hence the need for MoT and insurance.

What you need to do is apply by post for a new V5 in your name and to your address. This closes the identity loop and confirms your address since you are changing the details. Then you can tax it if you ever get that Mot cert.

Won't be quick.

So you started this thread today....November 2015 ?

You do realise all vehicle licensing was moved to DVLA in Swansea over a year ago ? DVA does not do vehicle licensing here.

Yes I know....and if you ring the DVLA in swansea to do the V62 stuff over the phone you go through all the bks and then it says "If you're in northern ireland you must do this at a post office and take your Insurance and MOT documents with you".

THATs how much it's done by swansea.
