There is the City of Derry airport, I think Ryanair among others fly there.
Havent a clue where from though.

As for ferry's, you'll be heading to either Belfast or Larne.

Give Nutt Travel a shout for any bookings.

But for a single trip across, Belfast-Cairnryan via Stena Line is usually cheapest. Although I prefer the boats on P&O Larne-Cairnryan
On most days there's a ferry approx every 4 hours, with exception of Saturday night, Sunday morning where they seem to stop for a bit.
Expect to pay £100-130 for a car+2 single journey.

If you're flying into Belfast International ( located near Antrim lol ) I think there is a Airporter bus that links the two airports.

Other option is Belfast City airport, which is in Belfast. I'm sure there is a bus route to Londonderry in some shape or form, havent a damn clue though.

Translink operate all bus/train routes here, so maybe give them a call.

Did this journey in reverse last week.
Flew in from Derry and drove from near Stansted airport to Cairnryan - took 7 hours with no traffic. The a75 from the m6 to Cairnryan is crap though. Great scenery on a nice day, but last week was really foggy and frosty- a nightmare. Depending on where in the UK you are going back to it might be worth considering driving to Dublin from Derry (c.2.5hrs) and crossing to Holyhead. Birmingham is about 3 hrs from there....

Ryanair fly to City of Derry (Liverpool and Stansted I think).

Much better choices for either of the Belfast airports (International near Antrim, City in the city funnily enough). There is an Airporter bus from both that will take you to Londonderry-Derry from either Belfast of City of Derry airports - http://www.airporter.co.uk/.

Ferry wise you've either got Stena from Belfast, or P&O from Larne - both go to Cairnryan now. The only probelm with this is the A75 - the police are usually sat waiting for the boat traffic. Failing that, you get stuck behind trucks, and if you're not ready at the passing places up the hills, you'll be left stuck for some more miles

Going via Dublin is no shorter and not quicker.

Road mileage to most places in England is the same, there are less ferry crossings, and the actual crossing is slower. So overall journey time will be longer.

Another option is the Belfast to Liverpool ferry. It sails at 1000 and 2200 daily and is approx 8 hour crossing. Monday night or Monday morning might be the only exception there...cant recall which one doesnt sail. Crossing price is higher than the other ferries, and night crossings more expensive than day.

TBH of any trip to/from England via Scotland, The A75 is the best bit. I despise motorways, just so bloody boring !

Police reference in Scotland is worthwhile. If you are buying a car, make sure you carry your documents including insurance. Ive heard of quite a few people having issues when buying cars from England after getting stopped on the A75. Although most cases they were driving like tts and deserved to be stopped. But they do float about the place checking cars.
The police are usually there stopping random cars getting off the Ferry into Scotland as well.

I never said that it was shorter or quicker- just an alternative... it may be handier if the OP was going to south west England...
The Liverpool ferry is a good idea too, though my preference is to drive more, sail less...
