Guys,

Mate of mine has bought a Mondeo 1.8 Duratec off Ebay. The vendor says it has started to use oil...not too much but it does smoke a bit when engine gets hot.

Also, the clutch has a tendancy to slip slightly. Not under normal driving but if you tried to hold it on a hill, then it would slip.

Anyone give me an idea of how much this would cost to fix and how long. Any recommendations as to where to take it.

Feel sorry for him as he has just started up in business and had his motor die on him. this Mondeo was to replace it so he could get to and from work.

Need to find someone to do a decent job for a decent amount if possible?

How old/what engine

This is bread and butter stuff for pretty much any garage, although nothing actually needs fixing yet does it?

Wait til the clutch it properly knackered, and just leave the smoking for now until you know whats wrong with it/it fails an MOT

Well its an 02 plate Mondeo...Guess leaving it would be best option but he needs to get from Norwich to North Walsham everyday so needs something that isn't going to dump its guts on him after a week.

Here would be a good place to start.......

http://www.talkford.com/forum/89-ford-mondeo-mk3-2...

It's a wealth of information and people will willing give help/advice even to new forum users.

The using oil could be all manner of things without more info on the car like mileage etc.
As for the clutch slipping, ok it could just mean a new clutch BUT i can't remember if the 1.8's have a dual mass flywheel sensor or if its just the 2.0 and diseasels, if they do, it won't be a cheap job as the DMF will set you back around £600 on its own!!

Have a look around on the forum and see if you can find the answers before writing the car off as dead tho......
