With the sad, but understandable, news that the charity trackday at Marham has been postponed I’m looking at going to Woodbridge instead, probably April 16th (the excuse being it’s my birthday treat!). Now, I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to such events and my car (Camry 2.2 Sport) isn’t the usual trackday fare, although I found it be surprisingly competent at Marham last year.

Open pitlane, so should be decent value for money at £119. Just wondered about the types of cars and – more importantly – what the courtesy and consideration of other drivers is like there.

Due to my lack of experience I’d feel more comfortable with the extra run-off of an airfield venue, not overly concerned about stonechips.

I’d be interested to know what anyone’s experience of it is and whether anyone else off here is going?

Edit: Just found this thread...

http://www.track-days.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&...

Seems pretty positive. Anyone got more to add?

Yes, i have done a couple there with Javelin who are a very friendly and laid back TDO.

They make quite ineteresting layouts too.

I may be there on the 16th too, but am at Snetterton 2 days before so me and the car may be tired/worn out lol.

Ive done a track day there with Javelin and have a friend who is a marshall there. I found it to be well run, and track manners seemed to be quiet high smile

Sounds good, thanks for the advice both of you. I think I'll be going for that.

Been there a few times - well run, plenty of run off and interesting layout.

Bit like a mini Marham!

The Javelin guys are really, really nice. smile

It's a relaxed trackday, loads of run off. The biggest issue is the surface which can eat tires, but it's a trackday after all....!

Car-wise you'll see all sorts of things, everything from an Aygo to Radical type things... including some machines that would fit very well on the set of Mad Max!

Being local I try and go every time it's on.

See you there!

Thanks for the encouragement. I booked myself in last week, it’s now saying full – will I see any other local PH people? You popping along Elliott?

Got a full tank of V-Power, my 17” wheels are fitted with some part-worn but decent make tyres (thanks Ian!) and on the car already with the usual road 15’s in the boot to drive home on, so it looks like I’m ready to go.

Booking list shows much of the usual trackday fare, most of which look like they’ll either be faster or handle the corners rather better than me. Should be fun trying to see who I can keep up with driving something a little unexpected – me and the Camry weren’t quite as much of a mobile chicane as I expected at Marham last year. I’m sure me and my passengers/additional drivers will have fun!

I’ve watched one or two videos on Youtube and it doesn’t look like the track gets too congested at all.

Have fun and let me know what it's like - I'll need somewhere soon to spend a day testing the modifications to the Monza and it needs to be a little cheaper than a proper circuit based trackday

I'll be there.

Hopefully they will have reverted to the normal layout. Didn't like the shortened version they were running while work was being carried out on part of the airfield.

See you tomorrow! biggrin

Well, I certainly had a great day! 140 miles of driving on track, the Camry behaved very well and I was definitely getting quicker and using better lines through the course of the day.

Good to meet up with Elliott, many thanks to him for accompanying me for a few laps where I got some useful tips and then some rather faster laps in his Caterham.

By and large track manners were good, the day was well-run and the circuit itself had enough variety for me - the twisty bits were certainly reminiscent of Marham. It perhaps lacked only fast sweepers but I suppose that's expected of an airfield track strung together from a bit of runway, taxiways and pads around the hangars. Straights were long enough for me.

As a bonus, I believe I was the quietest car measured at 73dB!

Ian, I'd certainly have thought you'd get something out of it.

Sadly not me, I can’t afford/justify doing them too often.

A couple of the people who went on Saturday have stuck videos up on Youtube.
