Following the recent bad weather, is there a national tyre shortage?
As I have been unable to find any this week anywhere, I am waiting a couple of weeks hoping tyres become available...
I need two each of "Y" rated 245/45R18 and 265/40R18 (could use 275/40R18) tyres and I do not want "run flats", as I do not like them.
Any ideas welcome...

Thanks Kev...looks like the only tyres in the sizes, "Y" speed rating and a decent load rating too, that are from the same manufacturer, with the same tread pattern (anywhere) are FALKEN FK452's.
People tell me the FALKENs are a decent choice...although I appear to have no choice at the moment...unbelievable as it may seem!

I went down to A14 tyres yesterday to ask about a replacement tyre. I pulled into the small car park at the front only to see it rammed full of cars, so I went up the little access road only to find that nose to tail with cars too! So I turned around and went home! There might well be a shortage - or maybe A14 tyres are the one supplier with some rubber stocks? They're in Bury St Edmunds fyi.
Anyhow, I had Falken FK452s on my Golf R32 - fantastic. I don't drive like a complete loon so all I can say is these tyres hang on longer than I can and they seem very stable a true when braking really hard. Best bit was that I got them for £75 each (fitted). Tyre size is 225/40/18.

Try these two:

I bought a set of winter tyres from Pneus a few months back at a great price and they were delivered quickly.

Tried buying Falkens today from "clickontyres", really nice and helpful chap...but out of stock of pretty well all larger size tyres (including the Falken 452s I want!). Delivery due first week of February.
I wanted to get Falkens for mine in 225/40 18 and Tollgate tyres told me the same thing "can't get them till second week of feb" so i ended up getting Prestivo's instead. A relatively new tyre on the market and so far so good, nice firm sidewall and noticed a reduction in roadnoise compared to the Maxxis ditchfinders i had on before!Gassing Station | East Anglia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
