Hi,

I've rambled a bit - see last paragraph for actual question!

I asked a similar question a while back and got a very helpful response so I'm asking a differnt version now...

We're off to look at a new house which has an underground parking space and a space on the top.

Currently we have 3 cars and a 'bike. Two every day cars, one competition car and the bike which never moves (but will do one day and I don't want to sell.)

Current house has a garage (my car, tools, bits of boat, half used cans of oil and paint etc) and a drive (wife's car) and I rent a lock-up (competition car, bike).

When I need to work on the competition car (too often!) I bring it up to the garage so that I have power and a supply of tea and sarnies. The lock-up (found via PH) is close to current house but has no power and is small. Infact both single garages are too small to do do much on the car easily.

I had planned on moving to a house with an attached double garage - my car on one side, competition car and bike on the other. Tiled floor, work bench, possibly a TV...

This looks unlikely as we don't like the location of houses that are big enough to have a double garage (we live in Norwich city centre and want to stay close in. We can't affrod Newmarket road) and have all the other things we want so I might need to compromise.

I'm looking for a solution: A place to keep the competition car that is dry and has power, enough space to work on it if needed and wouldn't object to tools, oil cans the odd spill etc...

As i am sure you know, you will find it hard finding anything bigger than a standard lock up garage in the city.

The council rent out some small units at Hewitts yard down hall road. Most have power. They are slightly larger than normal domestic garages, which are useless, but are not cheap for what they are.

Anything bigger will be a small industrial unit, which will cost you £400+ per month!!

A customer of mine has barn space a few miles south of the city. If you are interested, give me a call and i will put you in touch. My work number is 01603 401250.

Thanks Eddy.

We're planning on seeing the house over the weekend. If we like it I'll be in touch.

I've also been investigating four post hoists which would allow me to store one car over the other (but not really to carry out work on it)

Thanks for the responses. As it happens we didn't like the house. Well we did, but we're not buying so its back to looking for a double garage.

Cheers

Chris

Next door to where I work in Thorpe there's a couple of lock up's for rent (well there was a few months back when I asked)

They are bigger than an average garage but I'm not sure if there have power . .
