Hi

Can anyone recommend any decent restaurants around the Cambridge area please. It is for a special occassion (Birthday) so it needs to be somewhere special...

Many thanks in advance.

Mid Summer House

Right by the river on Mid Summer Common

Go easy on the wine list though. Some are £3000 a bottle!!!!

Hi Mark

That was where my dad suggested too. I just wondered if there was anywhere else......

Few more options here

There only one I have been to on the list is Loch Fyne. It was OK but I wouldn't spend my own money on it smile

Hotel du Vin is also pretty good, as is the Three Horseshoes in Madingley. Midsummer House is more stuffy than these two.

Sheene Mill or the Pink Geranium are pretty good, out in Melbourn though

I've eaten in all of those that have been mentioned above, all pretty good, but the summer house is really expensive.

I think the Sheen mill and the pink geranium are not what they used to be.

Also for consideration

Now owned by the restaurant manager from the 3 horseshoes

Never eaten here, but it gets good reviews in the local paper

If you wanted an excellent chinese, the Phoenix at Histon is one of the best

You could try Alimentum. A little out of the town centre (nearer the train station). Is non-chain and gets good reviews. I've not eaten myself but when my girlfriend's company was designing the branding several of them ate there and said it was excellent.

Thanks for the replies!

We went to Alimentum earlier in the year and the food was excellent, and we also went to Loch Fyne last year and that was good too but we wanted to try somewhere new.

I have also heard that Sheene Mill and The Pink Geranium were not what they used to be.

Hotel Du Vin looked nice when we walked past the other week but what is the food/service like?

I've also heard good things about the 3 Horseshoes so that could be an option.

Restaurant 22 and Hotel Felix look good - has anyone eaten at either of those there recently?

Cheers

Not eaten there but the bar at the Felix is good for a cheeky cocktail. Has a good raised patio/deck which gets the evening sun.

Felix is fantastic, great food and service. We got married there last year and the food was just as good for the wedding breakfast as it is in the restaurant. We go for dinner there a couple of times a year and have never had a bad meal.

I've also heard bad reports about Sheene and the Pink gerannium, Midsummer looks very nice but is very expensive and personally I don't find the menu that pleasing.

Pink Geranium is now a Thai restaurant. Went to the Sheene Mill a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent and very good value. Midsummer is far too up itself for me. Sycamore House in Little Shelford is simple but reliable and excellent value. Shame the Tickell Arms closed down last Christmas -I'm waiting to see if someone else will take it on.
