Hi PHers,

setting out from Ludham on Wednesday morning in one of the Hunter's Yard 30's yacht. Got to be back 9am Friday so we are planning to be back Thursday night and sleep in the Yard.

Logic says to me that we sail one way (with pub lunch) on Wednesday and moor (near pub) Wednesday night and then return (via different pub lunch) during Wednesday.

Windguru (which I find very reliable for the coast) says that Lowestoft will have wind from the East on both days so I’m thinking of going south but that would take us to Acle, where my wife grew up and therefore not particularly exciting.

So another options would be to use the Bure towards Horning where we would get lots more options of places to stay or up the Thurne towards Hickling which might be harder work on the way out put should be nice coming home.

Any ideas / suggestions please

Thanks

Can you get under Potter Heigham bridge?

We can drop the mast and quant (sp?) through but I'm not sure we'd want to, same for Ludham. If we avoid bridges that takes us East towards Horning etc which means coming straight into the wind for at least part of the way home (though actually the river is so wiggly we'll be heading east but frequently going north and south).

Whats the pub at Acle Bridge like? Can we moor and visit without going under the bridge.

How quickly do the moorings fill up at this time of year? Do you need to bag them early?

I don't know the Broads in that detail, but you could try asking on www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/

It's like PH but for the Broads!

Acle bridge good for food and beer, can be a bit tourist trap but still nice place to eat. Im sure you will get under Acle bridge ok with mast down.

better pub is stokesby ferry, just east of the bridge

The sail from Yarmouth to Acle can be a bit of a chore, lots of tacking if wind wrong and nothing to see apart from reeds !

Oh and yes you can tie up your string powered machine each side of the bridge
