For weeks the A14 between Ipswich and the A140 junction has had 1,000,000 cones on it and 50mph speed limits - but not a single workman. Same goes for the A140 near Diss where a perfectly good chunk of road is coned off 'for safety reasons'. Is there an unexploded bomb under it or wot?

Come on Highways, either do the bloody work or get the cones and cameras out of the way! The country is producing little enough without these needless handicaps.

I think that they are doing the work at night to minimise delays. I'm interested what Carriageway Refurbishment as opposed to resurfacing is supposed to mean though

OK, then they could turn the cameras off during the daytime. Or is that too diffcult?

Still, I stick on cruise, switch my brain off and get 50mpg smile

Mmhh! It's the anticipation isn't it! something might happen today ---- tomorrow ---- maybe soon -- but then again!!!

Perhaps we should consider the "Fat Controller" element having his/her moment of "power" creating misery for those that would travel these highways!

Then again - maybe they're having a "meeting", deliberating the repair of "harzardous pot holes" vs general maintenance!

When I drove through their a couple of months ago they were 'Upgrading the street furniture', to me 'street furniture' means benches, telephone boxes and litter bins. Not many of those on the A14.

Maybe the 50mph limit is in force because the cones are a hazard?

I never understood the whole working during the evening and weekend to minimalise delay. What's the difference? The lanes are still coned off and you still have to do 50mph though it no matter if it's midday or midnight!

Have you not noticed the difference?? They skim the surface off and its got small grooves running with the flow thus taking the bumps out of the road. Don't half notice the difference in a truck makes a much smoother ride specially when fully freighted!

They've be redoing all the armco, sorting out and re-tarmacing the bridges on this stretch, there's rumours as well that they are laying superfast broadband cables at the same time....

After christmas when they first started doing it all, the sign's said 'disruption for 14 weeks'......they way it's going it'll be 28 weeks!

Last time I went past there was one bloke with a shovel and one bloke sitting down eating a sandwich.

Perhaps they could put cones round just that 100 yards instead of halfway to Birmingham...

These cones were in place for most of last Summer also I seem to recall. I was trundling along in my vintage iron at an steady 37.5 mph and traffic Q seemed to build up rather quickly behind me. Thought should I pop into the cone off lane out of other users way, or will I get nicked? Much to the relief of other road users I did and they got on their way. So these road partial closures are really an menace to everybody, except the guys working on the road.

Travelling from Norwich to Colchester at weekends and back for Monday morning is really starting to get my goat.. the road is a mess and traffic builds up so quickly!!

I wish they would do something about the SPECs/marked of lane.
