Took the Griff along to Scole for their ever enthusiastic and competent guys to give it a service and MOT at their sensible prices and decided to drive into Diss in the thoughtfully provided free courtesy car. driving

It was a horrid, cold and wet day (it did not stop raining), but Diss brought a smile to our faces. smile

Great little family owned shops (try and find the wonderful old fashioned sweet shop...you won't be disappointed!), friendly Norfolk locals and a very tasty lunch...in fact Diss has so many great little bakers and tea shops it is a wonder that they all prosper. I suspect Diss gets very busy in the summer, especially with the picturesque (even in the wintry rain) lake in the middle of town. So don't "diss" Diss...it really is pretty nice! thumbup

It's amazing how living and growing up in a place can tarnish your view of a it.

I work in Diss and it's great for popping into town for lunch to get a sarnie (Sanda's is the best) - not surprising that Subway went out of business!

Indeed...what a coincidence...we had a tuna & sweetcorn baguette and duplo capuccino (in a mug) at Sanda's...delicious! nom-nom-nom! lick

Nothing wrong with Diss and loads right with it. Every town is suffering at the moment with this reccesion but Diss seems to be holding up well. Is it true that the town will soon have 600 new houses built and the Victoria road will be bypassed?

There are a load of apartment/flats going up on the old Bartrums site and there is another development at the opposite end of town. Can't see a bypass any time soon. Which ever side they put it on (north or south) then traffic coming from the opposite direction will still use the town. Then there's Lopham and Redgrave fen with the raft spider, and the land north of Diss earmarked for possible development.

With the likes of Carpetright, Specsavers, Tesco, Morrison I'm sure they would'nt have spent big money without an eye on development in the area. Perhaps those that you mention add up to that 600 or so homes then.Nothing going on in the evenings in Diss is an downer tho.

I've been in the one on the top road (the road that goes out of town towards Attleborough) with the long thin car park near it. Had quite a decent curry in there.
Much prefer Nimmi in Thetford. Great curry and cheap as well !

I worked in Diss one weekend last summer and found it a very pleasant place to be, although we had little chance to explore the area.

I intend to visit again this year but, this time as a tourist smile
