Why go cheap when the purpose of the survey is to check for problems ??

Ask the estate agent who is selling the house to you, or house owners direct, if the house has recently been surveyed. Perhaps somebody had the survey and deal fell thru for some reason. Sometimes you can buy the report at much less expensive cost. If the report is available but over 6 months old it may not be acceptable to your mortgage company, if you have one.
