Is it just me, or are the new road markings on the Bowthorpe Roundabout designed to confuse?

I predict there will be many near misses and probably a few shunts before the month is out.

definitely! I come in on the dereham road to then turn right there into the industrial estate but there isn't actually a lane for the estate turning they all just seem to say a47?! yesterday I was well over to the left coming up to the exit I wanted & indicating yet had a moped try to throw themselves out infront of me.

also is anyone else slightly bemused by the (very permanent looking) sign at station road on the a11 saying "a47 shut" then when you get to thickthorn its not..?

The new markings are retarded! It just doesn't "flow" correctly.
I don't know why they have found it necessary to change them confused

I hope they remove the new hatchings, as they did with the most recent A11/Newmarket Road roundabout, south of the city.

Its an absolute nightmare, but what about the speed limit change in Drayton and Taverham? Very few signs to let you know the speed limit has changed from 40 to 30.

Its even worse when you're emerging from New Costessey. They've deleted the turn right lane so you cant nip through to go around towards the A47 and instead you have to queue behind the people going straight across towards Bowthorpe. (Who inevitably take ages to proceed onto the roundabout!)

You also end up in the right hand lane when turning off down the Dereham Road towards the showground! I've already had a few people beep me because they've pulled out on me as I'm going around! rolleyes

I'm sure we'll all get used to it though. smile

I just ignore the stupid markings and use the roundabout as I always have IE just drive strait over the chevrons.....bet the idiot(s) who designed the new layout are really proud of themselves!! rolleyes

I went round it again tonight - they seemed to have changed the lines on the Norwich, from Dereham approach since I last used it. (Either that or I've only just noticed!)

But this means people leaving Norwich, using the new inside lane, now have nowhere to go when exiting the roundabout! banghead

Yep, sometime yesterday they painted new (different) markings on the approach to the roundabout and in the best traditions of shoddy workmanship they haven't adequately removed the old markings, just to add to the confusion.

So, a roundabout that "worked" perfectly adequately has now been buggered up.

I have also heard rumour, that the bus lane on the Dereham road that starts at the end of the dual carriage way as you head towards the city, is to be extended so that it starts just after the Bowthorpe roundabout.

A note to the Traffic Planners in Norwich: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I go this route to work every day and no end of numptys cut you up if you use the new lanes. They will not keep left so you get no end of number one and cup of teas signs. Easily cured by a bit of right foot.

For the last few days, and the week before Christmas, when the roads have been covered in snow and therefore the markings not visible, everyone has just been picking the "obvious" route/lane around the roundabout and traffic has flowed much more predictably and (IMHO) more freely.

Go figure.

Despite the new lines, the Norwich-bound car decided to cut me up at the roundabout. It was a rather close encounter, so some horn was required only to met with a two-fingered solute from one of the passengers!

Lovely people, superb roundabout design hehe
