If you intend visiting Maldon next weekend and will be using the A12, be aware the 'average speed' cam's will be operational. (think they go live 3/11/09)

Thanks Dave - at least such things are easy to spot, then hit 'cruise control on' and you're safe.

BTW your car won't have cruise control for another 50 years, but then again I don't suppose it could speed anyway! wink

Yes John, unfortunately my old iron is not permitted on motorways, they are to slow!

The camera's start at Colchester and run to Brentwood, and as John mentions they are easy to spot, but you could get caught out at night. Still better them than gatso's??

Well it removes any element of cat and mouse - you just set it to 70, switch your brain off and wake up at the other end.

Mind you the A12 runs so badly especially at peak times that I wouldn't have thought speeding to be much of a problem. It may be that the average speed cameras are there to iron out the traffic flow.

Whilst on the subject of the A12, I heard/read about stories that the new sections around the Witham approach area was causing problems. The newly installed ulta effiecient cats eyes creating an strobe like effect in headlights and some drivers experiecing a 'fit' like medical condition due to this strobe effect?

Unless headlights flicker, which being DC they shouldn't, I don't see where that would come from - maybe ask on General Gassing.
