PS they are dellortos and are only 40's with 36mm chokes - I couldn't find a matched set of 45's and 50's seem to be as rare as rocking horse ste

The quest may never end....but you could always have a word with one of our chaps 9 the one with the orange Midget, not at Marham this time, but should be at the next one) who has installed a home-grown fuel injection system to replace the time-honoured SUs on his Midget...MG Mark
So in order to improve the car I'm resorting to fitting parts from a beemer
If you are going for TBs as opposed to carbs 50mm is *huge*. Remember that carbs, lets say for example "40s" have a choke in them to increase the airspeed and suck the fuel into the airflow, on a 40mm carb the chokes will likely be 32-36mm. Throttle bodies on the other hand have no such restriction and are straight through so in general you can go down a couple of sizes without costing you power. In practice though once you have fuel injection you can cope with slightly oversized TBs as you have much finer control over fuelling than a carb does.
To give you a comparison a ducati v-twin uses 50mm TBs and they are producing around 75bhp _per cylinder_! On that basis a set of six 50mm TBs will be the perfect choice for a 450bhp engine. For engines with a more down to earth power output those TBs would be a pig under light throttle openings.

All very good and valid points but I ought to point out they aren't going on my current engine (3.0 Straight Six 24V) - capacity is increasing by a fair margin to 3.7 Litres with a stroked crank corresponding rods and custom forged pistons that will increase the compression ratio to 11.0:1To give you a comparison a ducati v-twin uses 50mm TBs and they are producing around 75bhp _per cylinder_! Target BHP is 320 - it's rod ratio that will limit bhp (well rpm range) so torque and drivability are the aim of the game rather than outright bhp numbers
Currently I have the biggest chokes possible at 36mm - like I said earlier I would have liked a set of 45's but the 40's came up at the right price and whilst they are a little restrictive it was an interesting experiment
Anyway thats a discussion for another day but I'll leave you with a picture of some custom pistons
I haven't got any photos to post unfortunately, because I was lucky enough to be preoccupied with driving all day both days!
I do have some in-car footage from the Nova though, about 20 minute clip. It's in-car with a difference though as I pointed the camera through the back window rather than the front. Makes for interesting viewing!!
Does anyone have any advice on how to chop it into managable bits before posting onto YouTube? It's an mpeg.

I miss Rich24v attending - his video footage is excellent - front facing and rear facing cameras linked into the same video Picture in picture - always admire people who can do stuff like that I do have some in-car footage from the Nova though, about 20 minute clip. ABS member Paul - His Monza has been in restoration/upgrade for several years so we let him turn up in his diesel daily - damn thing gets quicker every year - in April I could keep up with him or he could keep up with me depending on who was in front - now I can't even get close and he catches me up very easily Messing around with a 440hp Skyline spitting flames from the drain pipe exhaust....for me 3" is more than enough!
