Guys/gals,

My father in Law has terminal cancer and we have just been informed he has a maximum of two months left to live.
My three young children will be devastated but I want to make the best of what time we have.

Over the half term, I want to take my family with my father and mother in law away to North Norfolk as he loves the area.

has anyone got any recommendations for hiring a Holiday cottage as close to the beach as possible as he is very limited to distance as the cancer is making it hard for him to walk.

Hope someone can help

So sorry to hear about your father in law Kev, i'm sure he'd love to spend time with his loved ones in such a beutiful area

there are static caravans that people rent out at PineWoods at Wells-next-the-sea, might be abit chilly that time of year. found http://www.norfolkcottages.co.uk/ which looks to have a good selection of cottages available.

Hi ya Kev,

I am very sorry to hear about your father - not good news frown
Although, I have no experience of renting or rental companies in North Norfolk, I did a quick Google search for you and came up with these three links, that will hopefully be of some use.

LINK 2
LINK 3

Hope this helps and you can all enjoy your time together.

Trix,

Thanks we have used PineWoods before and my wife and three children and mother & father in law spent a couple of weeks there back in July.
My wife did try and book a static in the same place as before but was told all were booked due to the clement weather we are having. We were looking to go over half term rather han take the children out of school.

One issue I found is that a holiday cottage will need to have a down stairs bedroom /toilet due to FiL not being too mobile now....

Darren,

Some great links there mate thank you....as mentioned, limited to easy wheelchair access now too.

Guess, this is a wake up call to grab each of life's chances when they get presented to you. FiL has spent all his life working bloody hard on the railway to be able to enjoy retirement. Now at the age of 63, he has the money but not the time.

Life's a head fk mate...enjoy it while you can. wink

Kev!

My father in law is in the exact same position. He has til xmas although he doesn't know it. Self employed all his life so there was no family holidays.

Retired last year and next year "was" taking the whole family to Florida.

He is still looking forward to it :-(

His was prostate cancer (go and get checked fellas!!!) which is an aggressive form, he's now had his bladder removed but its now spread to his bones!

I hope your father in law has a great break at wherever you find accomodation.

There is a place in Mundesley/ Bacton area called Cable Gap which you could try :-)

Never a truer statement. My father planned early retirement at 60, 22nd Dec. He succumbed to the Big C on the 4th of Dec aged 59. He'd spent many years planning for it only to fail at the last hurdle. Live life for the day.

Thanks for all the links.

It looks like we could have it sorted. Albeit a week earlier than planned. The owners of a static that M & F in law have hired quite a few times before have been in contact and have cancelled their stay at their place to allow us to use it due to the above reasons.

Herb.....yeah, FiL had lung cancer 4 years ago and had one removed, then last year (almost to the week) a pain in the back which the doc told hm was muscle pull, turned out to be a tumor on his spine just between the shoulder blades. An op to remove offending tumor and spine and replace with steel and girders sorted it out short term but its back and growing at a feckin alarming rate....walking is difficult now as well as keeping awake but he is a strong and determined bloke and still manages to make the effort to walk with my children the 20 meters or so to their school.

It is amazing how many people have it, and you do not truely appreciate the enormity of the evil disease until it takes a grip on a loved one.

Lets just hope he makes it to Christmas.....fingers crossed.

Thanks again.

If it helps Kev, the Red Cross is behind the "Whiffler" pub where you can borrow a wheel chair etc! :-)
