Sorry to hear that Paul, because it was a lovely day and the weather usually makes a big difference. I would have been there but had customers visiting and couldn't get there in time.

The pub needs to know/should know by now that numbers are variable and also unpredictable, depending not just on weather but any other events going on. The pub has the capacity to swallow up either 30 or 3 in their huge conservatory - it's not as if they were turning other customers away to accommodate us. The only other way is to make everybody pay a deposit which they will lose if they don't turn up - but that sounds like duress to me and personally I don't think weekend fun activities should have duress applied.

Anyway, if the staff are going to be grumpy then maybe The Angel at Woodbridge will be better after all - and the landlord is a PHer.

Ultimately all that Darren or myself do is set something up; whether or not people attend is up to them - whether it's a pub lunch or Helmingham Hall. People can still have a perfectly good pub lunch, natter and tyre-kicking session even if we can't make it personally!

Anyway, it would be interesting to hear from the 'regulars' what better offers they had!

I have to say that's never happened before, and I'm slightly concerned to hear this - thanks for bringing it my attention, Paul. I wasn't able to turn out because of the birthday celebrations, but I'll make it the next one smile

I've had 5 turn out at one meet this year, but it didn't seem a problem with the lady at the bar. I told her I didn't have the 15 I was expecting and she moved us to a smaller table. I apologised, but they do know numbers are variable, and she was fine.

Usually I get about 6 or 7 definate Yeses, and end up getting a few others who fancy coming along on the day, which is certainly fine from my point of view - and in keeping with the informal nature of the PHEA Monthly Meet smile

They pub have my number, I haven't heard anything from them. I would have at least expected a "Where the hell are you all?" type of phone call.

We have a little while to consider options, as next month we'll be heading back to the Northern Pub.

Darren
