What is it with some pedestrians......

Particularly the feckin new pedestrian crossing outside Delaney's/ St Andrew's Hall.....in Norwich

Is it just me or do people now just assume that traffic is going to stop. Everyday I go up and down that road, people just walk down or up the hill from the Art College/ city and just carry on walking when they get to the crossing. Hardly anyone actually stops to see if the coast is clear or a car has actually stopped.

Case in point, this morning, driving the truck down towards Duke Street, group of people walking down to St Andrew's hall, stepped out in front of me, not a massive issue as not going fast so stop and let them go (as you should)....then from behind my left shoulder (remember I'm left hand drive) some muppet runs down the hill and right in front of me as I am pulling away (crossing clear by this time)...

I brake and toot, with that she screams that I feckin run her over and then flicked her lit cigarrette through my open window. By the time I'd reached over to retrieve said lit cancer stick and prevent it from burning a hole into my passenger seat, the feckin woman had carried on walking down towards Colegate still turning towards me swearing and jesticulating.
Tried to find said woman by coming down Duke Street then around bottom of Colegate but she had gone...only wanted to return her fag....angelpunch

Sorry rant over......furious

i personally just open the bike up about 600 yards down from the crossing, that tends to scatter them smile but on a more serious note, i agree. They just seem to amble across. If im in the car il just creep forward until i can get through.

This must be all part of the 'Road Safety' groups latest wheeze, a full intergration of road vehicles and traffic, designed to make the driver/rider take a higher degree of attention to surroundings and a slower speed? Works in Holland, Lord help us.

There is indeed a barmy left-wing idea to let pedestrians wander about in the road as a traffic calming measure. I think the group that approves is called 'reclaim the streets'. Nutters all.

Brilliant!
Speed humps are there as a traffic calming measure, so by that same token, surely we can drive over pedestrians? whistle

Problem is Kev if you found her she would have called the Police and said you threatened her and you would be in trouble. I always favour the 'dish served up cold' method.

It could be seen as a way to select the most alert of the species and thereby improve the gene pool, yes.

This season I am mostly a pedestrain.

Or as I think you would say "I just now moved up the City" and walk to and from work.

I have been trying NOT to press the "Wait" buttons on the pedestrian crossings at the Earlham roundabout, so that you motorists are not inconvenienced. However I have discovered that if you try and be helpful in this manner, a lot of you "car driving scum" think it is fair game to accelerate and/or aim for me.

Perhaps you would like to explain yourselves...???

Not guilty....if its a pelican crossing, I have no issue with stopping. The crossing I am talking about is the bog standard zebra (why are they named after animals?) crossing with the Belisha beacon....I applaud the pedestrian who uses these facilties correctly with a sense of self preservation. Its the ones that just stroll out in front of you and expect you to stop on a sixpence, then curse and threaten you for 'nearly' running them over......
