Stupid turbo Dump Valve simulator.
Discussion
I was driving in Yarmouth this lunchtime and heard a dump valve go off on the car beside me as we took the roundabout near Tesco/Macdonalds. "Strange" I thought, "that engine was just off idle. How could a dump valve open unless he's got a 3 ton turbo that's still spooled up since he last had the throttle open ?". I subsequently heard it on every gearchange (as the throttle was shut)
Then, I sussed it.
It's one of those bits of tat that makes dump valve noises every time the throttle shuts.
A Bit Of Advice if you're going to fit one of these things. (helps you not look stupid)

lol.
As I understand it all turbos have an internal blow off valve to reduce stress when the inlet's blocked due to closed throttle. It's beautiful and silent being internal -- my GT2 doesn't make a sound on the overrun/gearchange yet somehow manages to make close to 500bhp.
Why does an Astra turbo need to make all that racket by doing exactly what it already does but externally for what? 200bhp maybe?
Or am I missing something?

Most turbo cars have a recirculating dump valve and all you can hear is a slight pssst when lifting off. The vent to amtmosphere dump valves are only really need when you have huuuge turbos ( or you're a bit of a chav )

I did the same thing the end of an old whoopie cushion and a cable tie but it sounded exactly the same as the engine so nobody noticed. Jonny_uk said:
Really comes under the same thing as fitting yourself a 16 volt badge on the back, or 12 volt, or stickers not applicable to your car,
Don't know of many 16 Volt cars? Most of them these days ar 12 Volt. There are some classics on the road which are still 6 Volt, and then there are the 24 Volt trucks of course.....
