Will there be ANY trains this Thursday and Friday into London? Read last week thatthe managers are planning to strike too

Just read that an increased offer also rejected, taking the average drivers pay to over £42,000 a year

One an hour if they carry on as they have been. Automate it all and sack the lot of them.

My friends and colleagues who actually used the trains last week said they weren't too bad as long as you got a seat, mind you a lot of people are on holiday and a lot of people just didn't bother coming in.
I drove last Friday which was lovely and I wish I could do it every day.

If the managers go on strike as well it'll be a nightmare!

The managers are currently learning how to drive trains, I hear.

Given it takes years and thousands of hours (and exams) to become a train driver, that sounds a touch wide of the mark...

You won't be missing much the only reason National Express took over the trains was so their drunk drivers didn't have to worry about steering anymore.

Cant believe the demands the union are making. Bet there is a rapidly growing price on Bob Crow's head...... Still hopefully it turn into a full blown strike and then that will bring it to a head sooner rather than later.

really? i heard on the radio its been about 2 or 3 trains a day. 1 an hour isn't much of a strike, thats only a 50% reduction.

Anyway I drove to work for the last 2 and the beatuiful a140 reminded me of why i take the train >frown

My neighbour is a manager for a railway company. Perhaps 'driver' is optimistic - after all, it's worth £42,000pa I hear - but he's certainly training to do something operational, to replace people less dedicated to their jobs.

Well if you usually come in from say Shenfield where the average for the day is one every 6-7 minutes...

Shouldn't be surprised if a few managers are ex-drivers who've risen from the ranks - they'd only need re-training (if you'll excuse the expression!) to bring their certification back up to standard.
