Anyone else go to the Hot Rod/Stock Car racing at Spedeworth/Foxhall this weekend? (4th/5th July)

Some excellent racing and the weather was great too. Great to see the Lightning Rods; one of my favourite classes and haven't seen them for ages.

Couldn't believe the ticket prices though. 'Offensive' doesn't come close.

It's usually £12 per adult to get in. I went yesterday with my OH, my 16 year old son and his 16 year old mate. I figured that I'd end up spending £48 to get in.

Turns out they had raised the entry price to £24 per adult per day yikes with child prices stopping at 14 years old. How can they substantiate children being only up to 14? The place is in the middle of no-where and is highly unlikely to see 14-16 year olds attending independently. Where would a 14-16 year old find £24 to pay the entrance fee? Rules for part-time jobs and kids makes it really hard thesedays to have an income under 16. So youngsters are inevitably still part of the family unit - and that's a good thing!
In the end I just asked for a family ticket and thankfully the guy on the gate didn't query why my (under 14 year old) son had a faceful of hair hehe Still £60 for the four of us though.

Summary:

Racing - Excellent
Entry Fee - Utter rip-off

I travel up from the New Forest every year for this... The entry price is reasonable considering I would normally expect to pay circa £12-13 for a regular (9-12 race) meet. The best value for money is the Saturday when you get the best part of 20+ races over 11 or so hours.

I don't know how many races were cut yesterday after the Superstox accident, as I left at 5pm to head back south... did you stick around to see what happened?... was the guy okay? and how many races did they squeeze in after they finally got him out?

... The most expensive part for me was keeping the tiv fueled with super-unleaded for the 600 mile round trip (New Forest - Goodwood - Norwich - Ipswich - Norwich - Ipswich - New Forest)... at approx 18mpg, that works out at circa £170.00... hey ho... !

The Sunday was only scheduled to have 13 races; so to have doubled the entry fee really is steep. I'm sure it hasn't been that steep in previous years. And, as I said in the OP, I was double surprised because of the charges at adult rate for over 14's. £96 for a family of four is too much!

As for the racing, they only missed race 35, 'NHR - Best in Britain' from the schedule. There was no real demolition derby; for one there weren't really enough cars and they were running out of time. So the remaining drivers just 'accidentally' bumped into each other a few times following the National Bangers race. smile

Same i find with Santa Pod now, it is just a field, with a portaloo and its £25-30 to get in for a day,

They must charge all the traders for pitches!
