I'm after a couple of small bits (180mm x 40mm x40mm) of 6082 aluminium.
I'd ideally like them for free, I know this won't happen, but it gives you an idea of how little I want to pay!!

More importantly.. where might I get it? Any ideas?

Hi Ferg,
Whats it for! does it have to be 40mm x 40 mm ? Are you going to turn or fabricate something out of it.

Hi Phil,
It actually needs to be more like 50mm x 40mm. It needs to end up as an 'L' shape of those dimensions (roughly speaking) no thinner than, say, 20mm.

I see, the stuff ive got is no good, it either 16 mm square, 20 mm round or 40mm round.

I'll have a look in work on monday, we've got a big sheet of 1" thick alloy we use to make formers out of. Not sure of the spec of it, but it must be fairly hard as we beat sheet alloy around it.

Hi Ferg, if you get stuck these people will supply anything. http://www.smithmetal.com/locations/biggleswade.ht...

best bet would be to look around a scrap yard....a lot cheaper.

There is one near me which has skips full of all sorts. I could probably pick up a bit next time I'm in there. Not sure what 6082 ally looks like though!

You will have more luck with 2" square. More readily available. 6082 is also called HE30. I would expect to pay about £12 to £15 each from my supplier for a cut piece(plus VAT and delivery)

Hi Ferg,
We've got 75mm x 25mm bar in work. The metal spec is 2014A (L168, T6511).

This is big enough for you 'L' shaped bits and if you want any just PM me.
