Forewarned is forearmed and all that.

Am thinking about applying for a job in a school in the above area.

Anyone give me any local knowledge?

TIA.

I used to live near there for the best part of my life.
It's a bit of a dive, if I'm totally honest!

It's a "Brighton-and-Hove" situation in that Great Yarmouth and Gorleston are pretty much joined at the hip. Gorleston isn't great and Yarmouth's generally a bit worse.

Sure, both areas have their pleasent people and areas, but that's just my opinion of the general area.
It all depends where you'll be working, in which sector and where you'd be living. Sorry it's not a glowing report paperbagwink

I live a few miles from Gorleston. Has it's nice places and it's bad. Which school is it? My girlfriend works at one of the high schools.

It's OK, some very nice areas some a bit rough, the same as anywhere really.

It depends on what you want. I can't think of any really decent pubs in the area but Norwich is not far for a good night out.

Thanks Norts, would appreciate that. It's a Head of Year post. Guess the key thing is whether or not it's an inside job. If they already have it earmarked for someone else..... well you know the score.

What does your other half do?

Assume you don't live too close to the school. What sort of area would you suggest I look at? Would be renting to start with.

Just spoke to her about it. As far as she's aware it's not been done inside and they are still looking. She's training to be an English teacher by the way.

I'm about 4miles away from it. You could be renting a 3 bed semi house within walking distance for about 650-700pm. If you need to look for a place I know a local esate agent that I could put you in touch with.

Place to live?

I used to live in Hopton-on-Sea for the first 17 years of my life. It was a very pleasent village, even though some apsects became a bit chavvy before I left It's around 4-5 miles south of Cliffe Park.
I would guess the best places to rent would be in Gorleston, Bradwell, Great Yarmouth, Caister or possibly Southtown. A little further out are the villages or Belton, Lound and Browston. Map Linky of the areas mentioned

Did you type this drunk? No way is Hopton that far away, 2miles max. Also Southtown a good place to rent? Yeah if you want your car up on bricks.

Southtown was merely a suggestion. It was terrible as of 7 years ago, but it could have changed, hence the "possibly" comment wink

Was it really that close?! I moved a couple of days after passing my driving test and it always seemed a long way away via bicycle biggrin
