Where to stay in Lowestoft?
Discussion
Do any of you easties have a recommendation for where I might want to stay near lowestoft over the may bank holiday? Most of my googling has turned up either very expensive hotels or utterly utterly rancid b&b's :P
Not flash, not expensive, but not crap is what I'm looking for.
Cheers!

Stay down in Southwold and drive in. Lowestoft is, without doubt, one of the biggest stholes in East Anglia.
Really? It's not great, but Great Yarmouth knocks spots off Lowestoft in the sthole stakes.
Anyway, let me know what you're after, what side of the bridge etc...
The Wherry (Oulton Broad) and Victoria (On the sea front) are ok, although they're nothing wonderful, but location wise not bad at all.
There's the Mill House on Bridge Road in Oulton Broad. It's very nice and Penny is lovely, but Bridge Road is quite busy, but there's loads of parking. There's a couple of nice bars nearby, 'Bridges' and 'Broadview' both quite modern, and the Wherry is a there too, nice on a sunny day.
There are two good Indians nearby too (Railway & Balti) The Red Herring is more mainstream, and quite nice bar/restaurant.

Fishers Hotel, London Road, Pakefield, not too bad at all, owned by the parents of a client, good access to A12 towards Southwold etc.

If you want something a bit upmarket http://www.ivyhousecountryhotel.co.uk/
It's off Beccles Road, so within walking distance of Oulton Broad, A146 to Beccles, Loddon or Norwich etc.
They're the only places I can think of at the moment. Depends which part of town you're after North of South, as the divide is pretty big, and makes a lot of difference to your travel if you want to go one side to the other, all traffic held up by bridges.
Oh
You could try http://www.pottersholidays.com/ 5* resort? But that's heading towards Yarmouth
Let me know more details and i'll have a think

Lowestoft is not that bad.......Oulton Broad is nice & the surrounding market towns are great for a strole.
If Lowestoft is where you are wanting to stay, Ivy Farm is by far the best in the area & food is great.
Certainly consider a jolly to Southwold & Aldeburgh.
My parents have two converted barns that they have for holiday lets which are kitted out extremely nice (all mod cons & flat screen TV's etc...)
As already mentioned though both Wherry & Vic are good.
Enjoy

I grew up in Hopton, so sandwiched between Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Oulton Broad is a good call. Many a happy afternoon spent there as a child.
I was very happy when my parents moved. The only thing I miss about that part of the world is the sea. You are correct though, Yarmouth is a sthole but, IMHO, only marginally worse than Lowestoft.

What sort of place are you looking for?
And where abouts?
There is a place called the Winelodge, basically ten odd rooms, nicely done with a wine bar downstairs with all different types of beer on tap.
Across the road from there is the beach.
Yeah I saw the website for that one - looks interesting so I'll consider it. Also will think about driving in from elsewhere And where abouts?

Depends what you want?
Buzzy in-town location or quiet country cosy? If the latter, try http://www.uggeshall.fsnet.co.uk/, which is 5 mins from Southwold. My mother lives in the same village and we know the owner well - she's a superb host and cook. Gets pretty booked out though.
