Just had a reasonable journey back from Eastbourne probably ruined by an incideous Scamera van, located just before the services at Newmarket, in the eastbound carriageway. They are quite often there, and I should have been more observant. I was not travelling at silly speeds, but a bit above the limit (3 points etc). The really annoying thing, was that the road was vertually empty....had`nt the copper got anything better to do?? Its just a very easy way to catch motorist and make money....and it is all about making money, despite how brainwashed some coppers might be. If they really wanted to stop people speeding, all they have to do is put hidden cameras everywhere, and give everyone a fair warning. That would do the trick, but they would not make any money.
Anyhow, if the the RBS wker chap looses his obscene pension because of public opinion, why are the scamera vans still allowed to operate?? Fixed cameras at the right locations fine (some actually do a good job).

Sorry to hear that mate, but if you were not too far over the limit you might just get away with it due to the inaccuracies of your speedo and a few mph grace on their part (fingers crossed!). They are not usually manned by police, the people manning them do it for a full time job I believe, so they can't 'go and catch some proper criminals' as the phrase goes. Fancy saying you did that for a living at a dinner party, now that would be a conversation stopper!

i asked a traffic cop about the 10% debate and he stated its now usally 5% +1mph tolerance meaning now its only 74.5mph and they can prosecute!! Any excuse to earn more money for a moments lapse of concentration!!

Worth noting that normal speedometers over-read, so a genuine 74.5 probably looks more like 79 on the dial (try it with your satnav and compare)

I have seen him there many times. He just bumps up on the grass verge on a sweeping bend with three lanes. I can't see how he can exit his position safely without causing a potential accident!!!!!!!

Now the 16th, have you heard anything from them? If you haven't heard after 14 days, you are in the clear!

It's very easy to speed on that road!

Having said that i've seen no end of police checking people for speeding there over the years, Traffic cars, motor bikes and camera vans.

Haven't you lot heard "speed kills" rolleyes

I saw the scamera van parked up in the layby further down, after it splits with the A11 towards Stow Cum Quy, and a big truck pulled right in behind him blocking his view! Good ol boy laugh

Speed never killed anyone. It is the smashing into something that does that.

Hardly any accidents happen at over 150 mph on the public roads; most happen at under 30mph... so why the big hangup about speed??

Fortunately my post bag is empty so far, although I thought it was up to one month, but hopefully you are right.

Scamera vans..why...money, money, money, its just another tax.

"Speed Kills" no it does not, but you cannot argue with the fact the faster you are going when you hit something, the greater potential for damage, so there has to be a sensible balance, which in previous generations has been achieved with responsible behaviour, but unfortunately the current politically correct, hippy, socialist lot have destroyed all sense of taking responsiblity (spurred on by the European human rights convention, which Tony has backed rigorously to help keep all his laywer mates in work....sounds like another job creation scheme).

Pollution...bo**ocks....sure exhaust gases are not healthy, but cars are supposed to only be responsible for about 2%....the worst offenders(3/4rds).....agriculture, power stations, domestic heating, and industry.

Agree with everything you say, mate. Glad to hear you didn't get taxed by the 'Safety Partnership'.

The best way to see how accurate your speedo is to time the distance it takes to pass the mile markers on dual carridgeways. However this might be considered illegal as it is technically time trialing.

Absolutely.

Set cruise to 70, speedo shows 70, Satnav clocks 70, 70, 69 repeatedly through it's cyclical checks.

Every truck in the land has a speed limiter.

If the government were serious about permanently removing the ability to exceed the (temporary) national speed limit then they could easily force all cars to have a speed limiter fitted. But then think of the redundancies that would cause? Road "Safety" is a big business employing lots of people and paid for by the motorist and so it is a "win/win" revenue stream as far as the government is concerned.

In a similar manner tax on alcohol and cigarettes pays for the NHS. Why do you think they want to put a minimum price on alcohol purchased from a supermarket?

Everybody knows it is bad driving that is dangerous and not speed.

I think the majority of car speedo's are out and underread. Trucks are more accurate as they get calibrated every year, or maybe two I dont know. smile

Not all trucks are limited, only those for "hire and reward" ie if you own your own motorsport truck it will not be limited. tank

Strangly my 1995 Range Rover is very accurate, 70mph on sat nav reads 69 on speedo. May be because its an ex cop car and has been calibrated.
