When we bought our house, it had a lovely woodburner in the sitting room but hadnt been connected.

We want to get this installed and working now and have had a couple of quotes from two local companies.

Now, I understand that roof work and H&S will make the price higher than a normal job but the quotes I got back made me question whether they were also supplying a woodburner with the liner.
Also, I understand that since the 'credit crunch', the prospect of high utilities has moved more people to look at changing to more 'old school' ways which in turn has increased installation prices due to supply and demand.

Has anyone got any contacts for someone to come and do the job at an agreeable price?

We are based near Wymondham.

Cheers

Kev

Hello

I have been told that you don't strictly "need" to line the chimney. Just make sure that the pipe goes a bit and then seal in the opening properly. However this will work if the chimney is in good condition.

My woodburner is lined and it didn't cost the earth. I'll try and find the number of the guy who did it

New house or old house? Also if flue is unlined and the wood you burn is completely dry you may end up with tar leaching through the unlined brick flue into your plastered wall - and I'm not joking.

Use an pro' outfit for this work, if cowboys install and make a balls of it you won't be insured in event of fire.

Right, here is the problem...(this is gonna be hard without a picture)

The house is two converted cottages. The chimney is basically a triangle shape (yeah I know its weird) in the centre of the house.
The fireplace in the sitting room sits under a fake chimney breast but approx 2foot from the actual chimney.
So the liner will have to come down the chimney come out the side wall and then into the fake chimney breast then connect to the woodburning stove.

Hence the need for me to get someone professional to do the work....frown

Hope you understood that.....I have re-read it and think it reads right....hehe

Kev

My day job is very busy, but in HR when I'm busy that's not something other employees are going to like if you get my drift.

The carbon stuff is quiet and I have deliberately kept it down. I'm not actively looking for new work as most people can't (or won't) pay for a quality product so I have left he existing products ticking along.

It's vey tough out there and from the feedback I am getting there are number more automotive emporiums on the way out.

frownyes I agree. I have heard of a couple of 'similar' businesses to mine dissappearing. Each one though chose a differing reason as to why....

I have also noticed a lot of companies are using the 'current credit crisis' and 'economic downturn' as a reason to get rid of some high payrolled staff. I really think it will come back and bite them in the arse when the recession ends though.
