Just got back to the office and had to vent somewhere.

Had to go from here in Heigham Street to Ketts Hill and back. It has taken me nearly 50 minutes for a journey that would ordinarily taken 20 minutes.

Bearing in mind this was before the rush hour too.

The reason......................the Council have employed Eventguard Security to stand on the roundabout at the junction of the inner ring road and Duke Street and stop people blocking the roundabout when the lights change......
mad

This has blocked the road completely. Traffic is blocked back to the Halfords roundabout and to the Puppet Theatre roundabout and beyond the other way....furious

What other ways are the council going to waste our money....7 Security guards standing around one poxy roundabout is a complete farce......leave it to the car drivers to sort it out themselves.......furious

And......breathe...............;)

I didn't know 'security guards' had the power to control traffic on the Queen's Highway.

Once, a single Plod with white gloves could have done it perfectly well. Or as you say, let the drivers sort themselves out.

Well, one did step out in front of my truck as I went to drive onto the roundabout but then thought about it again...hehe

Also, a mate of mine runs a cleaning company and was asked to quote for the Council. One of their road/pavement sweepers had got too close to a shop front window and had left a lot of rubber scuff marks.....my friend quoted £70 to do it.
When he hadnt heard anything after a week, he went back to the shop for the owner to tell him the Council had spent £370 and replaced the actual glass.. !!!!!!

I too suffered the Duke street wombles tonight... two on each exit, how much must that cost and for what need?!
Traffic was backed up to the puppet theatre again.

Anyone doing late night shopping in Norwich last night will have felt the full force of the utter waste of money that is the 'Private Security' firm directing traffic...

Nope - don't work there, I have a unit in the green buildings next to East Anglia Motor Auctions smile Actually that reminds me, I'll drop you a PM ref. the Valet thread.

As Norwich City Council have lost £32m in the Iceland banking collapse I have now been reliably informed that the budget for mending roads has been slashed completely and they have accepted that it is better to pay claims for damage to vehicles rather han put money where it is needed.

It beggars belief. The people who took the decision to invest should lose heir fat cat jobs at the very least.

Was it the City Council that lost 32m or County Council?
Either way the Council who has stated that they will pay out damages claims to motorists as its cheaper than repairing the roads has just opened an can of insurance worms. I would imagine that the insurance company will not be pleased. Just hope that nobody has an fatal accident as an direct result of an flawed road surface.
