I was emailed a few weeks ago by Trudy Long from Mildenhall airbase asking if we would like to show a few cars at the car and bike show they were arranging.

Trudy Long said:
Hi,

We are in the middle of organizing a bike and car show here on USAF RAF Mildenhall, and are looking for a good range of local car clubs to offer display of cars to show the American service men here.

The date is penciled in for Saturday 6th September 2008.

Its going to be a great show and I know on this and RAF Lakenheath there are a large amount of car fans here on base.

We are asking if your club would be interested in showing say 4/6 cars, the final out come on the date and the full spec of the show will be confirmed next month, but at this stage we are looking for a positive yes so we can confirm numbers etc of cars arriving on site.

It’s a good day out and food will be sold here on base at a good cheap price!

If your interested please let me know asap

I have just heard back from her again and the show is definately on Sat 6th September.

So anyone interested in attending ?? Part of todays email below

Trudy Long said:
We are now needing from you is the following information.

1. How many cars total.

2. The full Make, Model, reg number of the car that is being driven in on base.

3. The full name of the driver and any passenger that will be in the show car.

We need all this if possible ( the How many cars attending is needed for sure ) by next Monday (14th), so we can here sit down and sort out the car parking.

The general information for the show will be emailed to you by the end of this month, but we are looking at all cars must be at the main gate by 9am-10am and the show will be set up and open to the Airman from 11am – 4pm.
Obviously its all a bit in advance, but being an active airbase I can understand this. I think at this stage if we are going to attend I will try and book a number of places with her with the remaining information to follow.

So over to you guys, anyone wish to go ?

Right then, an update.

Since sending out the e shot I,ve got a fair bit of interest. I have checked with Trudy on the base regarding numbers and its a max of 10 cars I,m afraid.

I,m afraid its therefore 'first come first served'. List so far :

Myself : Corvette C5
Steve : Lotus Sunbeam
John Schofield : Scooby WRX
Mark : TVR S1
Peter (NASCAR) : Corvette C5
Paul Lacey : Dodge Viper
Nigel & Sue : TVR Tuscan 2 / Griff
Terry Shackle : TVR Cerbera

So that leaves 2 spare places. You had better be quick now !!

Remember, the base needs full car details (incl reg) and driver and passenger names.

Sorry Tom you have missed out by a couple of minutes. I will speak to Trudy again to see if we can squeeze an extra one in and let you know.

For those who haven't sent them yet, I need car details including Reg number and details of driver and passengers to get access onto the base.

Hannah, I,m so sorry I missed your post earlier in the thread with all thats going on. I know you said maybe only, but if you want to come along I will see if I can pull a few strings. Please let me know. My apologies again.

FYI I know The East Anglian Kit Car Club are attending, and they didnt seem to have a limit on numbers.

Just had an email this afternoon from Martin Pidd (Piddy) about it.

Wins the PHEA Lateral Thinking Award!

Odd that they have room for 2 x 10 cars but not 20 cars...

Good work Ian; if it's an annual show and you like it we'll add it to the list for next year.

Guys, I'm Trudy.

Ok the story goes with the room is we asked 9 clubs to attended allowing each club a max or 6 cars ( due to space! ) now Ian sweet talked me into 10 which was fine, today I have confirmed that the MG are only taking 3 cars and the mini club 4, so if you guys want to bring a max of 20 cars now thats cool.

The kit car club you was talking about we allowed 10 max.

So 20 cars you guys can bring.

Its my first show so be gentle!!!

No worries Ian.

Happy to get some cars in here to show the airman. Its my first show running it, its gonna be an odd set up ie in a car park here but I think 8/9 clubs are coming bringing a full range of cars. The base it self has a food court ( even though we plan to get the BBQ burgers on the go ).
The foodcourt take uk pounds and has Burger King, Pizza place, Ice cream place, mexi food place and plenty of coffee places! All pretty cheap. The car park backs onto this building which has starbucks and fridge of cold cans and crisps etc and free wi-fi and a kids play zone and a room with pool tables, X-boxes etc so if its crap outside you can play in here. The only bad thing is you can not SHOP in the supermarket here. Also a great subway so food is all cheap and easy to find.

I'll contact Ian a few weeks before but at present you guys will have to be at the main gate 9am ish and you'll need photo ID Passport is best!. And I know its pretty clear but your car must have road tax. The police on here are erm well you know a little OTT on things like that.

But here is my works email if you need any info that Ian cant help with
trudy.long@mildenhall.af.mil

Would like to thank you guys for coming
At present I'm begging!!! to get some awards made up for best in show etc.

But the guys on here are as tight as a ducks arse!

Of course if one was able to, er, 'borrow' the runway, that would turn the event from good to epic...

Sorry I can't make this one but I'm on wedding tog duty - the summer is bonkers.
