There work is indeed top quality, and for a good price.

East Bilney Coach works quoted me over £6,000 for some work on my car. I had the same work done, and more, for around £2,500 at C & S.
Whatsmore, they're trustworthy people! After they removed my spoiler, they found some extra rust repair was required. They called me and invited me down to inspect it, if I wished before they went ahead with the work.

a) wtf happened to your car that needed 2500 quids worth of repair?

b) my landys only just worth more than your repair

It had bonnet dents filled, the front bumper stripped, the n/s lower cladding resprayed (due to lacquer peel), a new o/s front wing (due to a bit of rust on the original), the boot spoiler was removed, the rust repaired and the spoiler bonded back to the boot. The whole front end, boot and n/s lower cladding was all resprayed, and blended to match.
That £2,500 figue also included refurb'ing the 4 alloy wheel (power coat and diamond, to retain the polished edge, and matt face), and stone chip repair/machine polish from New Image.

It's been shown on PH before, but she came out looking like this (pics taken on the day I picked her up from the body shop)

Or do the other thing and get your paintbrush out! Like I have.

OK so it was my first time and the results are not brilliant but I am going to have another go now cos it aint that difficult to get a good finish. For a Landy DIY jobbie budget 300 quid.

As another place to get a second quote from, S&C Commercial in Lowestoft (opposite the library) put a new side on the Megane when the wife took it off. Respray in met black. Superb job, cannot tell at all, and I was VERY concerned as at the time the car was only 3 months old, so went over it with a fine tooth comb.

The new side pannel, fitting and respray cost £1,600. They also did a respray on an acquaintences BMW ZM3, and that's who I got my recommendation from.

It is positively possible! My car wings don't look that great thanks to my lack of skills in the prep' work, but because the rest of my car is'nt great I can get away with it JUST.

If your car is rust/rot free all you need to do is wet and dry down the existing paint, wash of the crap, wipe over with white spirit, apply etch primer to any bare metal, apply primer over the etch you've done, apply undercoat, wet and dry that undercoat and then you could apply a second undercoat, wet and dry again then apply top coat. You could wet and dry top coat and apply second top coat. The trick is to use a top quality enamal paint and a top quality paint brush, and I do mean top quality. I used a Purdy brush and that is fantastic, forget ALL the other brushes except Hamilton perhaps.

The thing is this, the paint is produced for the purpose of coach painting and leaves a wet edge for far longer than 'ordinary' paint. This allows you to work with the paint, the brush is also designed for this type of work.

As I mentioned I have'nt done a great job and I know where I went wrong, next time I expect to get a really good finish, it won't quite be up to spray standards but on certain vehicles its all the better for that IMHO.

David, a mate of mine did exactly that when he painted his old "sit-up-and-beg" Ford Pop.
It turned out really well, even though it was purple!

(was over 30 years ago, mind)

Purple painted Ford pop, memory flashes back with that thought in mind to those Hotrods with just about everything changed from humble begingings to outrageous ending. Jacked up rear, chrome, glam paintwork and huge great rear wheels. I can recall seeing at the National motorshow one manufacturer who recognised a market for off the shelf such cars, dunno what happened to them?
