We are off to the Suffolk coast area this weekend and would appreciate recommendations on places worth visiting, decent pub/restaurant, and in case we get lucky with the weather a nice hotel to stay over

Aldbeburgh is very nice and there's a great pub there, the name of which I can't remember (!) but if Chris M sees this he'll fill you in.

Westleton Crown midway between Aldburgh & Southwold is very nice (c. 3 miles inland)- great food and very smart rooms having been refurbished last year...

Owned by the same folk who are setting up Tuddenham Mill that has been much talked about elsewhere. Stayed there with the wife last year for a 1 night getaway and earned some Brownie points!

The chip shop at the bottom of the main street in Aldeburgh is world famous, sometimes you have to queue down the road but its worth the wait. very nice after a walk down the seafront. maybe we should arrange a Fish and chip meeting/run sometime yes

The Maybush at Waldringfield is very nice. It over looks the River Deben.
Luckily my office is only half a mile away from it!

If not too late, then possibles are:

Riverside in Woodbridge (very good restaurant attached to the cinema) - I can recommend their £25 a head three course meal & film deal (and they'll let you take a drink in to the cinema as well )

The Galley in Woodbridge is good, but pricey.

Kings Head & Cherry Tree in Woodbridge both good for pub grub

Southwold, I'd try the Red Lion on the green.

When commuting between the two, I'd divert into Framlingham & drop into the Station. Very nice menu & local beer from the Earl Soham brewery.

Also on the way is Westleton, nice village, and as mentioned before the Crown is lovely, but by God do they know how to charge.... you have been warned.

If the weather is good, then go to the Ramsholt Arms pub on the Deben (on the other bank of the Deben from Woodbridge, and down river) but the views of the sunset are stunning, and the beer & food were good last time I went.

Head out to Orford as well, Jolly Sailor is the "unspoilt" pub, compared to The King's Head & The Crown and Castle, both of which are owned by Ruth somebody or other, a amte of Jamie Olivers... the prices are steep...

In Orford, the Butley Oysterage is good for really fresh local seafood. (Not to be confused with the pub called The Oyster, in the village of Butley on the way to Orford )

Hope that helps, as you may guess I live in Woodbridge

Have fun & mail through profile if you want a pint

Where to stay:

Cherry Tree in Woodbridge has great rooms in a barn conversion at the back.

Hotels - Seckford hall, lovely old building (& lovely old staff as well

Ufford Park - modern hotel on a modern golf course.

Can't recommend any hotels in Southwold, as living this close I've never stayed over there

I'll second that. Plain and simply cooked fresh fish, not that cheap, but bloody good. If they have the lemon syllabub on, order all they have lick! Then pop round the back for some smoked mature Somerset Cheddar from Richardson's smoke house.

Cheers all had a great day today caught up with some friends on the way down (Andy Gladwin and his Wife Sam) then on to Woodbridge, then to Westleton and finally Southwold, the weather was much better than forecast but very windy (nearly got Airborne on Southwold Pier!) Sunday and Monday are supposed to be equally nice so we have booked into Titchwell Manor near Brancaster for a couple of nights enjoy the weekend!
