What I Did for My Birthday
Discussion
Scott very kindly bought me a drifting day from Javelin Motosports for my birthday on Saturday (24th March) partly to have a lot of fun & partly to get me used to the RWD after driving a Smart for some months!
Venue was Barkston Heath airfield near Grantham in Lincolnshire, about 55 miles from home so not too far. The weather started off really dull but dry so off we went at 7.30am. Swiftly stopped at P'boro services not too long after ABSOLUTELY FREEZING. The passenger side is far colder than the drivers side as there's far less heat soak from the engine so I wasn't too bad. Poor old Scott.
Carried on, got a bit lost but arrived at 9.30ish & went out on the track at about 10am. A few brisk sighting laps of the tight course had me rather worried - surely it's not going to fit through there??? I thought I was doing quite well so picked up the pace - Cobra was like glue! Cue Scott's go - hmmmm. I like to think that my gentler efforts were simply "giving him inspiration" for some of the manouevres he pulled. I got a ticking off by the marshal for hanging on to the sides of the car!
Within the hour we'd swapped seats a few times & my wild grassy spins were gradually becoming controlled drifts & the car was really coming into its own. I did one circuit beautifully!
After lunchtime it did start to rain & we called it a day around 3pm as we were pushing it more & more & the car was doing brilliantly - thought we'd like to come out on top before I ended up hitting cones, people, scenery. Scott did clip a big mound of turf & dislocate an exhaust but that's another matter
Our good friend Jamesv9820 came along to take some photos of us & the other cars. He braved standing out on a VERY windy airfield in a hi-vis jacket & these are a few of the shots he took - I'm sure he'll post some more up later...
After we got back, Scott collapsed in front of the fire but managed to drag himself up to take me for dinner at the Crown Hotel in Wells at lightning speeds in his 205 GTi. We ate v quickly drove back at warp speed & promptly went to bed for a very long nights sleep...in preparation of the PHEA meet the next day!

Yes Chris Couborough (?) off Coastal Kitchens. Food was fantastic & lots of it. And good value too - we ate in the bar area (bigger choice) rather than the restaurant which has a bit of a waiting list. Highly recommend it & we would have enjoyed it more had we not been so totally knackered!
