Suffolk comedy speed limits
Discussion
I tend to exit from Norfolk via the A11/A14 usually so don't have to suffer Suffolk roads too much. But last night I had to drive towards Ipswich via Bungay/Halesworth.
OMG what have they done? The Bungay/Halesworth road seems peppered with random 40/30 limits where there aren't even any houses, and as for the A12 (THE trunk road from Ipswich and beyond up to Lowestoft/Gt Yarmouth) what were they thinking? I'd love to have attended one of the meetings (if there were any) where these imbeciles came up with this nonsense.
Whoever made these decisions has managed to create a complete ass of the once sacred 30/40 limits by abusing them like this.

it sounds a bit like the A140. i've not had much need to drive this road before, but i've had to drive it twice in the last 2 days (between the A14 and Diss), and god its tedious with the 50 limit and the assorted 30/40 limits.
i was sat in a train of vehicles bimbling along at 50mph, then all of a sudden because everyone is half asleep there's lots of brake lights and stamping on brakes as people realise its a 30 limit ahead, then its takes another mile or two to crawl back up to 50, then settle into comatose mode and repeat. i'm sure it can't be safer than it was before.
the only plus side was the car showing an amazing 77.8mpg on the trip computer for that part of the journey. not bad for a biggish estate car!

Wot about me then, it takes me half a day to reach 50mph and the second half to slow the bl00dy thing down again
Dave, if you got me up to 10mph in your Armstrong Whitworth I'd jump out!
I did hit 49mph which felt like 90mph! I was pretty well flat out altho the pedal had more to go it made no difference to the speed. Its doubtful that I shall ever get the old girl to go faster unless I shed some of its weight, like its floorboards Some may have noticed in 'Yesterday Heroes' I am having a bit of mechanical strife.
Some of the more stupid 40 limits are being replaced with 50s on the Suffolk stretch of the A140... you can see 50 markings on the road next to 40 posts in some places right now!
That said, I commute daily between Diss and Norwich and rarely get to cruise at more than 45 anyway. Too much traffic, and the huge bottleneck that is Long Stratton to deal with.

The best bit of the A140 is as you head south before Ipswich where it goes from single to dual carriageway still at 50, down a nice hill with good visibilty and a speed camera! Whats the point in dualing it if they are gonna do that?! You follow a lorry for 20 miles, get a good chance to overtake only to find out your not allowed to go any faster than they are anyway and if you do you get flashed!

The reason for that camera is twofold: 1. To make loads of money from frustrated motorists who've been stuck behind that lorry as described and 2. To slow people down to 50mph at the intersection just after the camera so you kill people pulling out dangerously by t-boning them 50mph rather than 70+.
If they wanted to save lives there they'd have a speed limit for grown ups and re-engineer the junction so feckless imbeciles can't pull out dangerously into the path of oncoming traffic.

How about the A12 south at Saxmundham. Single carriageway 60 mph. Leads onto dual-carriageway 50 mph!
