Snetterton 10th March 07 Novice Track Day
Discussion
I would love to but the suspension on my Chim is shot - springs have sagged about 1 1/2" and the dampers are blown so theres not a lot of point learning a track or car handling in a car that is not at its best. The new shocks are going on in April in time for Marham though.
Also, I have no idea how loud my car is - its a Chimaera with sleeved exhaust. Does anybody own a decibel meter and know how the readings are done? I'd hate to pay for a track day and turn up only to be told I can't go on because I'm too noisy.

I think my Suspension may need a bit of work too as it has started to knock occasionally, must get it checked out. I have my name down for Marham too so may see you there!
My car registered at 103dB, it does have a pretty loud exhaust on it, last year at Le-mans I was told by a Griff owner that it was louder than his car (Which I think had a custom exhaust of some sort!)
They test it on the main straight as you drive by (in theory approx 3/4 revs) although they will test it static also if you request it. If you think your car is too loud they suggest short shifting and making sure you pass them at lower revs...
You can hire dB meters from some track day organisers, or you could turn up at one (as a spectator) and ask if they will test it for you....

Thanks for the info - my shocks are definitely too bad though - I've not a great deal of confidence/enjoyment on the road at present let alone on track.
As for turning up as a spectator that seems like it may be a good idea - I'll look into that - Thanks!

What do they mean by 'novice' track day?
I guess it is for people with little or no experience, I guess it wont have the Race Cars etc running also which you would normally get at a regular trackday there....
I have been on 4 or 5 track days in the past so would still consider myself a novice.....

in the morning and providing we can sort it out, Sprog'll be driving BIG WEJ (His TVR) in the afternoon.
Give us a look.

Noise limit confirmed as 105db, static i guess. Might just scrape it with the zetec!
Big wedge susprisingly good at about 102 peak after last nights rigorous and precision testing

The noise testing carried out at the Start/Finish on a drive by basis, last time I was there mine was 102+ dB, they will test static if you ask them too!
I'm not sure they carry out the testing on all cars, only the loud ones.....
