After a bit of discussion, we have deceided on the date (and reserve) for the Holkham Hall Raid. The date for your diaries is Sunday May 27th, with Sunday June 10th as a reserve in case of bad weather.

Although the 27th is a Bank Holiday weekend and the first weekend that Holkham Hall is open, we decided to go for it and hope for the best. I was concidering the start point as Tesco at Kings Lynn (as per the Hunstanton raids), we could then head down to Hunstanton and around the coast road to Wells and Holkham. driving Does this sound okay with everyone?

I will do a little more work on this one and post again nearer the time. In the meantime if your wish to be added to my list for this event, either PM me through my profile or add yourselves to this thread.

Bye for now. byebye

I may be interested, the 27th is my Birthday so unless my better half has something planned count us/me in!

The 10th may be tricky as its her Birthday weekend and the week before I go to Lemans.....

A trip to Holkham Hall in a convoy of loud sports cars sounds like a good present to me nuts

One more here please

Well it sounds like a good present to me too, but she doesn't always share the same enthusiasm as I do.....

Would love to come Ian but the coast road on a bank Holiday Sunday! yikes Are you serious? yikes The traffic will literally be queuing from Hunstanton all the way to the Tesco car park in Kings Lynn. I jest not.

I suggest a Saturday, a different Sunday or going via Docking instead of Hunstanton.

Actually - that's a fairly good point. The amount of times I've been stuck on the bit from Kings Lynn-Sandringham-Hunstanton! And not even on a bank holiday

I had raised the point about traffic on a Bank Holiday weekend with John, but as Holkham Hall does not open until that weekend, and when we get into June a lot of other events are starting as well as Le Mans, we are very limited on dates.

I think another route across country to Holkham may be the answer. I,ll give it some thought.

I was talking to Gussie about it and she felt that the traffic around Holkham would be fine. Obviously that didn't include conurbations - I think a cross country route would be better and more interesting.

So, who's got a partner that can map read?

Put me down for this one! I should hopefully be driving by then!!!

RE: Getting from A to B

Quickly having a look at a 2006 Atlas, we could from Lynn, to Fakenham, then to Wells? You can do the A149 around Lynn, pick up the A148 to Fakenham, and then up the B1105 to Wells.

OR
A149/B1145/A1065 to Fakenham, then B1105 again to Wells.

Or a less direct (ie. longer blatt) from Fakenham to Well would be to pick up the B1355 from Fakenham to Burnham Norton, then head east along the A149 to Holkam and Wells.

Just some ideas! driving

Just one potential problem is that not the weekend of Pistonfest at Snetterton ?

Yep, that's the best route. The B1105 is a great road (or it is if quiet!) Also, it doesn't actually go into Wells, which helps.

Don't go through Burnham Market though. That will be a slow road over the Bank Holiday!

How about those coming from the south (me) and the east, meeting up around Fakenham? There's a Shell garage just on the outskirts where 10 or so cars would not be in the way. From there it's less than 15 mins to Holkam

I suggest meeting a bit earlier to avoid some of the Bank Holiday traffic as well. How does 7am sound? wobble

I think after attending last year, I will not be rushing to go back. There was nothing there except an empty marque and a few cars scattered around the camp site. Very poor. It wasn't a patch on the earlier ones held over at Shakespear Raceway (drag racing) near Stratford-upon -Avon.

I live in Dersingham between kings lynn & hunstanton I know these roads well, there are some great alternatives cutting out the summer jams. Are you A roaders or B roaders?
The bank Holiday point is very valid indeed on any of the roads here, though they wont all be tail backs, they will still be very busy. On top of which parking will be difficult even at holkham.

You can still park at holkham all year round and the cafe, shop will be open as will the beach car park so unless you want access to the house it could still be a good stop off point.

let me know if you need any details or would like some more options in the area

Guys,

Another good alternative is the docking road. From lynn to Fakenham you take a left down the B1454 - normally a pretty quiet road, and a good stright their too!!! From Docking you can get the back roads to coast road - and on to Holkam / Wells. Must say, Bank holiday all them roads are going to be busy however, especially the coast road.
