Just call me 'drift god' !
Discussion
For some time now I have wanted to checkout the Monaros performance on all types of events.
Tracks - I have done the Nordschleife twice and am planning several trips back there later on in the year (I have ring worm bad).
Speed - I have tried to get on to the VMax event a couple of times but they have always clashed with other things going on .
Yesterday I did manage to tick one more big box - Drifting!
Declan (cpt sideways), James (Driftaholic) and another drifter took 15 fellow Monaro owners under their wing and taught us how to drift. We were on the Silverstone heliport runway thing near the Silverstone drive school.
WOW what fun! We started at about 10, did lots of figure of 8 moves around a couple of cones. Then after some lunch we tried a long 2nd gear corner around to a roundabout. After a whole lot of that we all did a mini competition (combining the 2) and I managed to come joint third. Once that was out of the way more drifting was done with everyone going faster and faster with yet more smoke!!!
Anyone planning to drift I have 3 words of advise.
1. Change the oil in the LSD and make sure it has the right levels of friction modifier. If you don't, you wont get the most out of the day.
2. JC, Declan and the other instructors make it look effortless but it is hard.
3. Find a cheap source of tyres!
Anyone who wants to know more just let me know. I am probably going to do it again soon so I will keep you posted.
Here is a short video of what it was like here ...and the PH thread here
On a side note, Honda were doing a shakedown of their new car the very same day. I saw Jenson blast around the national circuit about 10 foot away from me for about 10 laps. It was f*cking awesome! I MUST go and see a real race. Those things are very very noisy and very very fast, much much faster than TV ever shows you.

Awesome! Sounds like a good day!
Maybe the Merc could do with a trip out to one of these events
Although the lack of an LSD may be a problem - although plenty of spinning from the inside rear wheel would give sufficient smoke
I'll give the video a gander when I get back to my computer (on a friend's at present, as mine is away for repair). But I suspect it'll be a good'un!
