I've just been reading our local paper, The Hunts Post, and looking at locals awarded honours etc and whos face do I see staring back at me? None other than our own Mark Williams - now OBE!
I'm sure the rest of the East Anglia crew will join me in saying a huge congratulations to you!!

Sorry but been jolly busy (sufficient not to have been able to get on the forum for the last couple of weeks) doing work stuff and only just got on the forum today and noticed this thread.
You are very kind and thank you for the compliments, and for noticing. I can't avoid it now that it is in the paper, particularly as my mug shot is there too. Indeed it is me.
Getting the award was a complete surprise - and a great way to end 2006/start 2007. I heard about it on 29 December, when my boss phoned me in the morning the day before the list was published with the good news, whilst I was mid-hangover recovery, having played host to the missus's dad and two brothers the night before. We don't get asked beforehand in the military if we want to accept one - it is rather assumed that you will do so automatically having sworn the oath. It has been a surreal week or so and it makes me proud to think that the system thought me sufficiently worthy to want to give me one.
I was awarded it for what I did whilst I was at Marham; it was a particularly busy period, with a manic operational cycle, and a whole mass of change going on across the Station in the way that we do business there, including a range of infrastructure projects, which all needed managing as well as my normal job there, which was running all the non-operational/engineeering side of the Station. As well as that, there was of course the other very enjoyable stuff outside the work environment, such as the Fammilies Day and getting the Charity Track Days off the ground, running them and in the process raising some substantial chunks for Stn and local charities.
You kindly supported those track days, and the Families Day, so as with all such individual awards, whilst it has been me that has been recognised by it, it does not acknowledge the work and participation of others that went into it all. It was only possible because of having a lot of good people working together and your participation was a part of that - so thank you very much and there is a bit of you and PH in there! The award will always be a great reminder for me not just of how much was accomplished at Marham, but of the place, the happenings, the people, a vibrant atmosphere and the excellent humour way with which it was all done. I'd like a copy too! The photo was taken, I imagine, by the resident Base photographer/PR man, and I never saw a print... hey, as we have some Marham bods here, I don't suppose you could have a quick peek in the archives for me...? It's a group of maybe 20 cadets on field day from Woodbridge School, probably June/July 1977 but might be 76-78.
