Any suggestions as to what to see on a day trip there?

The wife and I intend going up by train between Xmas and New Year. Are there any good places to eat at lunchtime. Nothing posh mind you!

Cheers

Sue and I enjoyed the walking tour of the old parts King's Lynn. Guides are arranged by the old gaol which is well worth a visit. They have the national treasure King John's cup there too. Best if you read up about it first.

King John was poisoned in King's Lynn. Not sure where he ate. The Riverside Restaurant is good but pricey. Not tried Maggies which was recently featured on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen nightmares.

he's on the train, so getting to great cressingham will be fun!

i've not been to Kings Lynn for a few years now, but my mrs went there a couple of weeks ago for the shopping, and the centre is all moderrnised now with some good shops.

there was a nice looking resteraunt featured recently on Ramsays kitchen nightmares, looked to be good food at reasonable prices, and near the town centre.

here you go....

The last time I visited the Caithness Crystal Visitor Centre it was just a shop because production had been outsourced abroad somewhere. It's a long walk from the train station too.

I believe that the Caithness glass shop has just closed down.
I may be wrong and i hope it's not because i am demolishing the old Jaeger factory next door!!

We heard through the grapevine that it had though.

Cheers

Well, had a very pleasant day out today Changed trains at Cambridge and arrived in Kings Lynn at about 10:30am. A bit nippy mind you, but at least it was dry and still.

I was surprised at how many people were out shopping. Some people are a glutton for punishment!
The old part of town was very quiet though, not many tourists about.

The old Customs House was interesting (Over 300 years old). It was still being used by Customs and Excise up until 1989. It's now open to the public as well as being the tourist infomation gaff. Did you know that whaling was positively encouraged in the old days? In fact whalers used to get a bonus as well as not having to pay any taxes! Can you believe that? No wonder whales were almost wiped out!

We looked in at the Riverside Resturant, but as we only wanted something light, we chose The Crofters Coffee shop, which is part of the same complex. Very nice it was too.

A very enjoyable day out. Made a change to go on the train too!
