TVR London rally - PHEA convoy?
Discussion
Hi Steve,
I,ve been considering this myself but as I don't now have a TVR I felt a little awkward about it. One or two other non TVR people have asked about going on the convoy, and the reception hasn't been to good (ie as long as you are at the back etc). Didn't think the Corvette would be really welcome.
Are you going down on your own or is Sue with you? If you or anyone elsehave has a spare seat I would love to come down and would pay towards petrol etc.

Hi Ian, had you considered slapping one of these on your Corvette's bonnet? On second thoughts, it might work in your local Tesco carpark but probably not on this rally.
Sue is busy that day so the passenger seat is yours if you like.
One car is not a convoy though, so who else is interested?
(Greeting from Chile BTW, yes I'm still stuck precisely here)

I saw it as well but didn't think I could bear the 'Clubbie' mentality, even with a TVR.
Personally, I cant see the point of it. I mean yes it is sad people are being made redundant, but if they do not have a viable business being based in the UK then it has to change, move on or close. This thread discuses the issues in a bit more thought than the Russian rants going on elsewhere.

To a point I agree with you Richard, and unfortunately I think the later is the more likely, but as owners, or past owners we have got to do something surely?
The talk of moving production abroad I just can't see. If you can't make money here, how in gods name are you going to make money in Italy or anywhere else for that matter. You are in affect starting again with new staff to train, suppliers to find etc etc. I believe that its yet another lie from the PR disaster that TVR have become, and that the company is set to fold any time soon.

Nothing you can do; companies come and companies go. I'm sure PW saw the writing on the wall and bailed out to the highest bidder, and I can't blame him. As a company, I think that ever-increasing product prices (putting them into a bracket where people demand perfection), poor reliability reputation (S6) and a customer base comprising mostly fans who put brand loyalty above all reason did them in. There weren't enough fans with enough money. In a nutshell, TVR got arrogant, believed their own marketing and it screwed them.

It wouldn't be the first time production has been moved overseas to save cost, but Italy isn't the first place I think of for cheap labour. I'd agree with Ian and the 'fold anytime soon' option.
Haven't signed up yet but think I'll be going. Should be quite a convoy/gathering with 200 + cars. Keeping them together will be a challenge.
Not that it will do any good for the folks at Blackpool, business is business, sadly. I too think it will not succeed in Italy and the sooner it folds the better IMHO. Hopefully moleskins will flog it off after he's, unsuccessfully, played at being a car maker to some group with actual knowledge of how to build cars. Then they can resurrect TVR from the ashes with a nice simple car like the Griff or Chim, with a nice reliable but still stonking fast, off the shelf Chevy V8 engine and a body to match. Keep the price below Porkers and bingo. If I want a car made in Italy there are others I'd rather have before aTVR. Bit like having a Ferrari made in Blackpool. The guy has no Idea .

When TVR becomes BST (Bacardi-Simpo Two) I'll throw in a simple entry-level model in the low £20Ks and also a 2+2, something like a stretched Chimaera. We'll also try to make sure things work properly before we sell them, and won't turn out half-baked new models every six months. Oh yes, and we'll listen to our customers - how's that for radical?!
Back to the rally, I don't expect it to make any difference. However, I would like to register my disapproval of another British brand going away.
Also I've not made it to any of the back home runs and think this could be the last ever big TVR gathering. A world record number of same make cars, and TVRs at that will be great fun.
Since I haven't driven my Tiv for a month I'm really looking forward to this!

341 cars so far, this is going to be interesting. My self and Wicker Man are going, any one else?
A usual meet up is Toys R Us at Ipswich for those coming from the North. I'm in Colchester so will pick you up when you come through. I'm guessing something like a 8.30 depart from Toys R Us? That should be OK to get to Thurrock for 9.45. Convoy there departs at 10.00 Alternatively we could pick them up on the M25 if there is some suitable lay-by to wait in?
All I can say is I hope Scole did a good job on rewiring my fans and the cooling stays under control. Simpo, you'd better come along... bring your thermos with the Douwe Egberts just in case .

Unfortunately, since they filled my system with Quaker Oats, the cooling 'headroom' is lot more marginal. I can only suggest you take a mobile and make sure your breakdown cover is up to date!
