Probably inactive. I queried my council about it once I realised they had fitted them and they replied pretty quickly. Won't do any harm to confirm with yours though

Why fit inactive bugs?
Microwave it and put it back!
Because it's cheaper in the long run. Had a fairly lengthy reply back from the council about it. At the moment it's about councils having the intent to use the technology rather than actually deploying it. They accepted my point about green bins moving from household to household too Microwave it and put it back!
Be interesting to see if Suffolk are actually using them or not.

Reminds me of those 'temporary speed limts' which magically all became permanent no matter how hard anyone complained. Preset agenda? You bet.
So they 'haven't deployed it' but 'intend to use it'... sounds like the same thing to me, just seperated by the push of a button.
Anyway, I'm in the clear - all I get from Herr Council is one black bag a week.

It may be a stupid question but... what does it look like? I am in the South Cambridgeshire District Council area so dont know if we have them yet.

Site says: 'Increased customer confidence and perceived value for money'
Good grief, yes, my confidence suddenly became far greater when I saw my bin had an RFID in it...
As for 'perceived', well of course that means 'not real'...
However they forgot one line 'Allows you to fine taxpayers for being naughty'. Maybe that bit was verbal

In retrospect the only snag is that they might then fine you for damaging Council property. Probably best to prise the critter out and put it back with a note thanking them for their thoughtfulness but that saying you didn't order it and that it contravenes your Human Rights of Wotsit.

What if someone else took it/damaged it?
This will be used in the months to come to increase our council tax by charging us per kilo of waste we throw out.
Simply a money making scheme in the wings.
Bins are left out on the street for collection. Who's to say who damaged the transponder while it was out there? This will be used in the months to come to increase our council tax by charging us per kilo of waste we throw out.

They are developing the trucks hydraulic lifters to detect the load and therefore weight.
Which seems to have nothing to do with recycling at all! Either you charge by weight, which in the absence of other schemes seems reasonable, or you don't. I'm not sure which is more important, weight or volume.
And of course it just means that people will dump heavy stuff in the hedgerows...
