Massive gravel car parks
Discussion
A quick google suggests that some cruiser types were using it as of last year, and the aerial view does look pretty promising - cheers.
Anyone know more about its current status - or indeed any other possible locations?

It's still open to pretty much anyone that wants a drive, although it is mainly learner drivers that use it. The surface is also a little unforgiving in places, lets just say that if you hit some of the pot holes you might not come out the other side and they are very hard to spot. It's OK if you just want to go up and down the same area but otherwise I'd be very careful.
Defo not gravel! Abrasive concrete.
With some fairly serious bumps.
My g/f works at one of the units on the airfield, and they regularly see people hooning up and down.
Having done so several times myself, you need to take a few runs to try to work out where the worst holes are.
Generally always one learner somewhere on it!
And it's not actually that wide if you intentions are to try a bit of sideways. A decent drop off either side at various points.

I was sprinting at Bentwaters when they were remaking the runway. About 3/4 of the way along there was a vertical drop of about two feet! One wonders if, had you gone over it at 135mph, you'd have been going sufficiently fast to land on all four wheels and keep going... but I didn't try it!
Take junior up there not doing bad for 13 one day he was driving at about 40 and a policeman pulled onto the runway. George suggested he could outrun him, bless spends to much time on the playstation. We stopped and had a chat he said the landowner is more than happy for learners but is fed up of the doughnut boys burning up there rubber.

Eye airfield is still being used for a good ole blat about, its also used by people who have just slapped on a set of red L plates what a mix!! I would sooner pay for a trackday.
So would I, but being a student and so on, even with a job I can't really afford trackdays*... occasional road rally is about all I can do. Anyway, if you give the learners some space I can't really see how they would come into conflict with me.
Still interested in alternative locations, of course
Or at least not justify them
