The girlfriend and I want to go lay on a beach tomorrow, one which actually has some sand...

Where's the best place to go? We don't want to drive too far from Ipswich, is there anywhere closer than Yarmouth or Lowestoft?

Drop south and right - how about Walton/Clacton/Frinton? There's also some beach at Bradwell, which is nearer and much more secluded.

I was thinking Walton, wasn't sure if there was much if any sand there?

Big girl is she ?

TBH I'm not 100% sure but you can start at Walton and follow the coast down towards Frinton until you find bit you like. Or you could make a trip of it and take the back road via Manningtree and Mistley (a good driving road) to Harwich/Dovercourt and then south.

Where did you go in the end?
only just seen the thread, but my vote would be for Walberswick, just south of southwold, its mainly soft sand, with "secluded" sand dunes if you like that kind of thing, oh and the pub in the village is pretty good.

We went to Walton on the Naze in the end, was quite nice, v. hot, until I took my shirt off on the beach then it went overcast! We then went onto Clacton which was quite nice and ended the day on Campus in Wivenhoe by the lake.
