Does anyone has any experience of Oakington Airfield - I think Javelin are the only company that organise days there - is it any good?

I want to book a trackday somewhere East Anglia way in the next month. It's Oakington or Snetterton - not much of a choice, but I can't find a track day at Snetterton in July whereas Oakington has one on the 23rd.

Any help or other venues would be brilliant.

Hannah.

I've heard good reports on Bedford Not too far for you either!
The very likeable Greg, who was also at Marham in the blue Noble, prefers that to an airfield day.

If I was'nt selling my Ultima, I would have liked to try it.

Hi Hannah,

Gary's advice on Bedford is good - Jonathan Palmer and his lot have invested significantly to produce good track surfaces and a wide variety of track layoyuts. Oakington is an old RAF airfield, but by comparison with Marham, the RAF moved out of it about 20 years ago, so the airfiled will not have been maintained. I also know that the main runway no longer exists (apart from anything else it is cut in two by a public road between Oakington and the next village) so it is most likely that much of the rest of it has gone as well, probably leaving the perimeter track. I think you will find that Gary will probably be posting details of another Marham track day soon.

Oh yes please!

I'm going to have a look at Bedford then as it's not a circuit I would have thought of.

I thought Oakington was closed due to the Asylum seekers complaining about the noise!

Oakington is not to be confused with the Bedford Autodrome. Oakington is a basic airfield near Cambridge and the surface is very abrasive with the odd pothole personally I'd avoid it and go to Snetterton.

You could try Prova Motorsport who hold track days at Sculthorpe near Kings Lynn....it's a less abrasive surface with lots more track to play on but it's still an airfield, so expect the odd hole
