I travel to near Norwich and back daily and have spotted what looks like average speed cameras going up on the northbound carriageway between Thetford and Snetterton.

Anyone know if that's what they are? I've had a quick google and can't find anything!

If they are, I think the money may be better invested in sorting out the flooding issues and lack of road markings rather than putting them up!

But that wouldn't make any money... and it's easier.

There are so many of these mobile packs being installed that I wonder if they aren’t hooked up to an ANPR system to auto-fine drivers who are on the road more than (say) once a week and not obeying “the rules”. Or maybe that’s just my paranoia!

Your post concerned me to the point I decided to do a little thinking and searching hehe

I discovered THIS HIGHWAYS ENGLAND Link.

It says there are planned resurfacing works on the A11 between Thetford and Attleborough where safety barriers are being removed, scheduled to end in May 2021.

So, my best guess is there will be a temporary speed limit policed by average speed cameras.
If that's the case, they thankfully won't be around forever!

Thanks for finding that! Must admit they look pretty permanent but fingers crossed they’re not then! Not that I condone speeding in any form, of course!

Cheers. Sensible research is SO much better than a conspiracy theory.

Hello again all. As an update, there's now a 40mph zone with the speed cameras having signs saying they're not in use yet.

But, there are loads of trailers parked up which I wondered about being average speed cameras. They look like generator trailers, but with opening solar panels and a pole with a camera on top.

Last night I saw it says "MVIS" on the side and after a bit of digging, I think it's these: https://www.m-vis.co.uk/its-products/portable-cctv... which are portable CCTV monitoring.

Anyone else seen them and reckon they're the same?

I drive up and down the A11 between Norwich and Wymondham junction daily. Certainly noticed these cameras towards the end of last week on the northbound side. The ones with the solar panels look more like observation cctv and then there are the dreaded yellow post with the camera going in. Not sure if they are much of the A11 is going to affected by this. I know some roadworks are staring soon, so hopefully they aren’t going to be permanent. Haven’t noticed any on the southbound side yet.

Ha I actually came back on here to mention those!

I think they're probably CCTV rather than average speed cameras. There's too many of them to be speeding ones, I think. It's odd that there's what looks like a 'proper' speed camera gallows (the big yellow one) that was in a layby and has now been moved to the garage and another near the Lotus turnoff.

There's a few appearing on the southbound side as you come off the Lotus junction too now...

That will be why I have noticed them on the southbound side yet then, as that my exit.

It's for the roadworks starting after Easter - there are both CCTV Posts being installed and SPECS we had the same when the A14 was being done and having just moved to Attleborough I recognize them (I had a few years at 40mph to study them). When the A14 finished they all disappeared from the A428 / A14 - so I suspect the same will happen on the A11 and the SPECS will go. (and CCTV will likely remain)

On both northbound and southbound I noticed yesterday between Snetterton & Norwich.

On another note, we have had the road resurfaced nicely between Attleborough & Thetford and yet Attleborough to Norwich is nothing more than a patchy, bumpy mess still despite the nightly closures!! Is this ever going to be properly resurfaced?

Thanks, that’s what I initially thought as they put cctv up on the Thetford to Attleborough stretch when they re-surfaced that.

They were temporary ones though on trailers where these are permanent ones in/on concrete pads. The yellow camera gallows look temporary but the camera looking things with solar panels look permanent.

Average speed cameras on motorways get approval from drivers

RAC’s annual report on motoring found that 58 per cent consider average cameras are the best enforcement solution on 60 and 70mph roads, with just 18 per cent saying fixed cameras are best, and only 12 per cent favouring mobile police speed traps.

Have you seen the cameras or do you have anything constructive to add to the thread?

They're unlike any other cameras I've seen hence the question.

I've become exasperated by all this speed camera bks. My comment was a sarcastic but sick joke hehe

I use the A11 when towing to Snetterton but not as far north as Wymondham. Next Snetterton event is May 4th with Cadwell next week driving

You might have found my previous post "constructive". Prospects are not good...
