Hi all, I have accepted an exciting job offer To work in East Norwich. I currently live in Ipswich which is an hours commute down the A140 which to be honest I’m dreading! Luckily, my house is already sold.

Here are the requirements;
- Less than an hour from Sudbury for the weekends (family are all there)
- less than 40 minutes from East Norwich
- I’m single and don’t know anyone in Norwich, so a village that has nice pubs or community etc.
- House budget is £300,000.

I’ve always wanted to get into mountain biking so Thetford sounds like a good option and I have a road bike anyway. But I’ve also heard Thetford is is an absolute dive and should be avoided at all costs. Are there any nearby villages that can be recommended?

My start time is 0800hrs. So is the A11 really that bad a commute in the morning? I don’t want to be having to get to work 45 minutes early just to beat traffic! ??

I did consider moving to Norwich itself but I have missed being in the countryside side I moved from Sudbury smile

Hi.

East of Norwich is fairly vague....Great Yarmouth is East of Norwich?

Anywhere along the A47 has good villages. Brundall, Blofield and Acle are the bigger ones with prices going from high to low in that order. Plenty of smaller places such as Postwick, Lingwood, Strumpshaw etc.

This covers a decent area. Quite a few decent places to drink/eat. Brundall has a decent train service into Norwich for nightlife (?)
A47 into and out of Norwich does get busy during rush hour. Getting onto A47 from Brundall and Blofield can be very hard work however.

Lots of new builds going up around Blofield area but not much work to improve road infastructure.

Little Plumstead a nice place but zero nightlife.

If you need to go down A11 then look for Wymondham, Hethersett, Cringleford and Spooner Row.

Those two are quite restricting - a quick play on Google Maps taking East Norwich as Broadland Business Park only gives the little block of Thetford to Harleston and a few miles South/North.

I used to work near Diss and hear good things about the villages of East Harling, Rickinghall, Redgrave, Winfarthing.
I wouldn't want to live in Diss or Thetford towns though, they are both dives as you say!

If you need to be at work by 8 I don't think you'll have an issue with the A11 - I used to be travelling South down the A11 at about that time and don't recall any major queues on a daily basis, but probably best to check the traffic on Google Maps at 730 tomorrow morning to double check I'm not misremembering!

I just sold a place in Thorpe St. Andrew, it's east of Norwich, just, and you can walk in to the city in about 35 minutes. It has a village feel with some decent pubs along the river but it also has easy access to the city and A47.

I used to live in Rickinghall - it's a nice village - growing but with a good local community.

Redgrave and winfatrthing a nice villages - but a bit small.

Only issue with these suggestions is that it's about an hour to sudbury - I used to find the A143 slow and a bind.

Getting to Norwich would be okay - if you cut through Snetteton could do that in about 3/4 hour

That's where I'd be looking first in similar circumstances!

Amazing how one wrong word can ruin a post! I actually meant to say WEST Norwich. Sorry people.

I looked at a couple of properties in East Harling, Garboldisham and Attleborough.

Garboldisham was a little too isolated for my tastes and Attleborough just seemed a little unremarkable to me. Also, there seems to be a huge amount of housing going up around the outskirts.

I loved East Harling however! 5 minutes away from the A11 and Snetterton, 30 minutes to the new work. Very much the type of village I am looking for and it has a real community feel, two pubs, social club etc. Unfortunately the houses didn’t quite do it for me so any other villages like that people can recommend would be much appreciated smile
