Used it about three times now, roundabouts are in my opinion rubbish, badly designed from a lane point of view and very very tight.... drove it yesterday taking the rents from Rackheath up to Wells for fish and chips... commented to pops that they weren't the best, then discovered today i'm not alone on this and there have been a number of accidents... council (obviously) blames drivers saying they're driving too fast. Real shame....

Anyone else think the same? (or not) smile

The other day there were two cars that had crashed independently onto the central island on the roundabout to nowhere by the airport. The lane layout is lethal for being cut-up and run off the road.

Tell your angst to the Council )or maybe Police as well), also EDP (Archant Newspaper, which you must know as you're local). EDP lap it up and love rattling the Council's cage!

I have been crossing it on the North Walsham roundabout every day to my workshop every day whilst it was being constructed and since it opened proper and have seen countless cars stuck on the roundabout and signs flattened, Have also seen and heard similar on some of the other roundabouts. Bad signage, angles wrong and no lane arrows. Some people do not have common sense though and are using completely the wrong lanes ie using the rignt late on entry and then cutting across all three lanes to go straight on. Very poor design and complaints all over social media and elsewhere, but the council will not admit they have got it very wrong as usual

It may be a half-baked attempt at 'traffic calming' - ie placing obstacles in the road which make it more hazardous.

Agreed. Drove up to Wroxham last week and was shocked at how unnecessarily tight some of the roundabouts are.

They're not so bad if you go around them properly, but the design of the bigger ones just exacerbates the habbit about 90% of the population has of cutting stright across lanes.

I do like the dutch roundabouts that add raised sections to seperate the lanes and guide people around them.

I've modified the highway code with a red line to match UK standards wink

Now show what happens when there are some with 3 lanes, some with 2 lanes, some left lanes are left turn only, some left lanes are for straight ahead, some start as 2 lanes and suddenly part way way a 3rd lane appears. Chaos. Watch both mirrors like a hawk or else you will be the filling in a car sandwich.

I am guilty of this, but only ever when the roundabout is clear of other cars... surely that's not an issue? Just allows me to take the roundabout faster (less fuel, brake wear, tyres etc)...

The number of times though that you're alongside somebody an a r'bout, you're turning right, and they start veering towards the racing line. ranting It becomes easier to stick back behind their back end, even if they're an old biddy going around across at 5mph. Would like to see mobile cameras catching people for inappropriate straightlining though!

I've been using the NDR to get to work everyday since it opened. The people who struggle with the roundabouts are the same people who struggle with driving generally. If everyone could be observant and can use their indicators correctly it would help.

I think the main issue now is that the EDP has started running frequent stories about how dangerous it is and people are trying to get themselves into trouble.

I don't understand why we didn't get the normal 2 lane roundabouts, what's the advantage of having 3 lanes? Certainly makes them more difficult to get onto as you never know which way people are heading!
Also no idea why they don't have countdown boards warning they are coming up, I did hear it's something to do with the category of the road but there are certain things you expect to see on the roads, and I would expect countdown boards coming up to a roundabout on a 70mph dual carriageway!
